  • How does one deal with working from home and selling that house?

Specifically, I operate two part time businesses out of my house. That means I work there, just like anybody drives to an office every day. The computer room is where I do science editing on contract and to a deadline. It wouldn't matter who was coming to see the house; if I had a job and an impending deadline, I'm grounded there till I'm done. Another room is more creative and contains a lot of what others might see as being nicknacks. They aren't. They are every bit pieces of equipment as test tubes, bunson burners and pipets are to a science lab. You wouldn't tell a scientist to hide his tools or remove his experiment, and those odds and ends represent that to me. So how would I handle those two active businesses while trying to show the house?

  • Does anyone know where the surname Heenan could come from? I'm told my ancestor came from Bavaria.?

My gr-gr-grandfather was supposedly born in Bavaria Germany. However, when I search for that surname in Germany, I can't find it. Does anybody have any clues where Heenans might have been located in Germany?

  • How does one go about purchasing a new home when they already own one with a mortgage on it?

It seems that people move from home-to-home without discharging a mortgage. My husband and I would like to consider moving but just refinanced our home 2 1/2 years ago. We haven't built equity in the house yet, so we're at a loss as to what we should do in order to consider a new home with an old mortgage hanging over our heads.

They are supposed to be low maintenance and I'm trying to find out if this is really so.

  • How could a tourist travel from Edinburgh to Glastonbury Tor?

Specifically, how would one make the trip without driving a car (since my hubby and I are from the US and refuse to take up the wheel on the opposite side of the road)? Is there a train that makes that trip? How long would it take?

  • In converting a Word File to pdf, what settings create the best outcome?

Specifically, I'm trying to convert a .doc to a .pdf then bring the pdf pages into InDesign in order to create a document in book format for submission to a printer. I did it once and those pages that were pdf's before I imported them into InDesign printed so bad they looked like they'd been created on a smudged dot matrix printer.

The pages I'm importing are Word tables and don't import neatly into InDesign. Either InDesign removes the table structure and tries to make them all paragraphs, or keeps the table structure but completely destroys the formatting. When I converted the tables into pdf, the file was imported in its entirety tables and format within them intact.

How can I do this and maintain high quality so these pages print clearly as a book?

  • How do I navigate MySpace?

At the risk of sounding stupid, how do I send a request to someone to be added as a friend on their MySpace page? I can see how to add them to my page, but I don't see any buttons or links related to requesting I be added to their page. I know people have sent me requests, so I'm really frustrated that I can't seem to find the way to do that. The FAQ's aren't helpful, and the contact MySpace page doesn't actually allow you to enter a question in your attempt to contact a tech person. I find this absolutely crazy!

  • Does anyone have suggestions how to keep my pup from turning over my waste paper baskets?

She's a small dog - Bichon Frise - and of the temperament that likes games. If I can't play one with her, she'll make up her own. Plus, she's only 7 months old so she has plenty of energy to draw from in "creating" theses games. My problem is that I work from home so I can't always play. I do have a pen and a crate, but she's getting to the age, she'd rather be with me. It's just that she gets bored watching me work at the computer and starts devising entertainment of her own. Suggestions? I can't keep her in Boodah Bones and her squeaky toys only hold her attention for so long.

  • Does anyone know what medications Japan permits a tourist to bring with them?

I have been checking out customs web pages for Japan and have seen the customs declaration forms that have to be filled out, but no where can I find a listing of medications and supplements that Japan allows a tourist to bring with them into the country. I'm due to visit in September and need to know.

  • Is anyone using the estrogen patch and having trouble keeping it on?

I just started using the Climara patch. The hormone itself is working great, but I can't keep the patch on my skin for a full week. The first one fell off a day early. I moved the second one to a new site like the booklet said and that one's falling off so bad after 3-4 days that I'm literally holding it on with surgical tape.

I'm not using lotion or powder there. I've followed the directions that came with the pack, but it just won't stay on. Any suggestions?

  • How to get a regular license back after having a restricted license in NYS?

My daughter's license was suspended 2 years ago when she forgot to return old car's license plates to the DMV in NYS. She was able to get a restricted license to continue driving to vocational school. It was never explained to her, so she and I just figured that once that suspension on her license lifted so would the restriction. She recently found out the restriction is still in place. What would she need to do to get the restriction removed and her regular license back?

  • My wash cloths and towels get smelling weird?

I wash them in warm water, use bleach or hydrogen peroxide to kill any bacteria, but ultimately before the end of the week...sometimes just sitting in the basket unused, they end up smelling horrible. Has anyone else had this problem? I use a fabric softener and have tried softener sheets. Anything else I can do to prevent this problem?

  • Signed quit claim deed but name not off mortgage. If ex dies or defaults, can I be held responsible?

When I was getting divorced 4 years ago, my ex paid me a sum of money and I signed a quit claim deed giving him sole rights to the house. However, since he's medically disabled the lawyers didn't want me to press for him to get a mortgage in his name since they were certain no bank would give it to him. However, now I'm concerned. If he were to die or default on the payments, would the bank come after me for the remaining mortgage payments? Lawyers? Paralegals? Is there anything I can do to rectify this situation now and protect myself?

  • Uninstalling trial of Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional?

How do I uninstall this program? I can't find it in the listing of programs to remove in Windows XP, and I can't find it using Windows Explorer. I wasn't sufficiently impressed with the trial version to buy it and it's now interfering with Adobe Reader.

  • Is it possible to retrieve data off a corrupted floppy disk?

I backed up important data onto several floppies quite a few years ago. I was able to access all of them except one. That one is telling me the disk wasn't formatted, which I know is untrue. It originally held my daughter's science fair project. I reformatted it and saved my own work on it. Are there any programs out there that can "read" what may have once been on there?

  • Woodpecker family pecking at my house. How do I get them to stop?

Last year we had a woodpecker who poked holes in our siding in a couple of places around the house. We kept chasing him off, but he'd come back. We had peace over the winter, but he returned this spring with company...presumably grown babies from last summer. Help! How do we get them to stop? They're digging some nasty holes in the siding in several places.

  • How should I dress to go to a Hewy Lewis concert at a casino?

My husband is treating me to this concert at the Turning Stone Casino to celebrate the publication this spring of my first novel. I've never been to a casino let alone a concert at one. I've discovered they have table seating. What would the dress code for an event like this be?

  • What is the proper way to maintain a hot water heater?

We have an 80 gal hot water heater and after just 2 wash loads and 2 showers, we're out of hot water. My husband has never drained off any sediment (I think you're supposed to do that), and I have no idea how old it is. What maintenance is supposed to be done on a hot water heater and how can we improve its performance?
