why does Rey Mysterio wear his mask?

It's part of the Mexican heritage. Alberto Del Rio used to wear a mask before he came to WWE.

Rey is indulging in the Mexican tradition of wearing a Luchadore mask. His father and Eddie Guerro did as well, back in the day. He wanted to bring his culture into a market that hadn't really experienced that much: the WWE. But if you see him with his mask off, he still looks fly.

I would only assume that Rey Mysterio wears his mask because it's part of his gimmick, and not to sound offensive, but in Mexican wrestling, many "luchadors" wear masks much like the ones he wears.

He wears it as an homage to all the great lucha libre wrestlers of the past, many of those those wrestlers inspired him to become a wrestler, so it's his way of carrying on a mexican wrestling legacy, a tribute to his forefathers.

He had a match against Kevin Nash (i think) during his WCW days, where if he lost he had to unmask, which he ended up doing..you can see the video on Youtube.

Well, his gimmick is that of a Mexican luchador who has that never give up attitude (hence his nickname "The Ultimate Underdog").

oh nahh, I think WWE wants him to wear a mask so he looks like a hero:P Thats the custom he has to wear all the time, and I think he looks better with his mask :P

he looks like a girl without his mask. Not trying to be rude or anything but when i first saw him with out his mask i thought he was a girl. if i was him i would keep it on to.

I think his face got burnt off. All that remains are his 2 eyes and one single strand of pubic hair that he uses as an eyebrow. It's true. I met him
