    1.Germinative cells:

a.start in the superficial layers of epithelial tissue.

no they are deep and move out!

    b. divide continually to produce new epithelial cells.

    YESSS

    c. cannot divide.

    Their purpose is to divide

    d. cannot function in the repair of epithelial tissue.

when they divide they repair epithelial tissue, or replace tissue that was rubbed off

e make up most of the epithelial type of tissue.

only the bottom layer is germanitive

2.Cells that are specialized for secretion

    a. are found only in the digestive system.

NO!! Hormone making cells secrete! sweat glands secrete

    b.are usually squamous.

No squamous means flat, to make stuff you need to secrete, you need the factory to make it, therefor you have to have cuboidal or columnar cells

c.have a free surface that is flat.

Not sure what this means... so no haha

    d. have a small nucleus.

Usually not, the stuff they are secreting is usually coded for in the DNA, so the nucleus has to be active because that's where the DNA is present

    e.exhibit polarity.

YES. Polarity means the "top" of the cell is different from the "bottom" of the cell. If you are a stomach cell, you only want to secrete acid into the stomach side, not the side touching the body, so you have to be polarized (done by having tight junctions)

3.In stratified epithelia adapted to resist mechanical forces, which of the following types of cell-to-cell junctions are especially abundant?

    a.desmosomes

    YES!!

    b. tight junctions

    weak, for polarization

    c. gap junctions

just tunnels for ions and stuff to pass through from cell to cell

    d. hemidesmosomes

are like desmosomes but they attach cells to the basement membrane, only the germanitive layer in skin has this

    e. basolateral junctions

basolateral only applies to polarized cells, stratified epithelia isn't polarized

    4. The basic shapes of epithelial cells include all of the following, except

    a. columnar.

    b.squamous.

    c.oval.

oval, they must be referring to urothelium which is only endothelium

    d.cuboidal.

    e.both oval and squamous
