Your choice of a fishing pole for crappie will depend on which method you use to fish for them. There are many that use an ultra light outfit to cast small lures and catch them much like you would if bass fishing. It can also be used using a slip cork and cast by snags, tree tops, weed beds, and use jigs for lures.
But if you fish out of a boat one of the most popular methods in my area is to use a 12-14 foot jig pole and explore the different depths trying to locate a school of them. You can use the tight line, no cork method and use the small crappie jigs for bait. Most people tie on 4 jigs of different color patterns to try and locate them quicker.
So just take you pick. Both methods are extremely fun. And both will cost under $50.
But during the spring spawn when the crappie come in close to the bank and around bushes, the jig pole with about a foot or more of line with a single jig tied on and work under the bushes in 12 inches or less of water is a killer method for crappie.
The ideal thing is to buy one outfit of each .Then you will be set up to enjoy a summer of fishing.

Why would you want to fish for only FOUR crappie? Most people would want a whole limit of 'em.
