Is it legal for a company to charge for a w2 form. I never received mine and they want to charge me.?

I was layed off after Christmas. Major dept. store.

    if they said they mailed it and you did not receive it then you have to pay for it, the IRS can provide you with a copy but they will charge you as well

    I think and I am not positive on this. You can be charged for it usually 5-15 dollars this covers their expense. There is a place online something like w2express.com and I think turbotax can look it up too. so short answer is yes I think it is legal call the IRS to double check or go to IRS.gov

    I'm pretty sure it's illegal. Employer are obligated to give employees their W2 forms.
