Which electric wires do I use to wire my light kit to my ceiling fan?

The ceiling fan is extremely old and doesn't have the usual color wires I'm used to. The kit is somewhat newer but no instructions with either of them,

The ceiling fan wires for the light kit are color coded red and gray

The light kit wires are black and white,

I usually deal with them that at least has the same color wiring on ONE of the connections which lets me know which to connect the other to, but this one isn't that way.

I'm thinking the red and black would go together and the white and gray but I want to make sure. I'm wanting to surprise my daughter with this by the time she gets home but I have no man in my house to help me with this one.

Update:

Thank you Mr. Dent. Following your directions, my light kit is not installed and working. My daughter will be pleased when she gets in from work.

Update 2:

OH - Mr. Dent.... I'm so sorry, I made a typo and meant to put the light kit is NOW installed , not NOT. I am so sorry for that. Your suggestion worked and as soon as it will let me choose best answer, yours will be it.
