What are some good beaches in the Melbourne area?

    Favourites close to Melbourne - Brighton, Elwood (anywhere from Point Ormond around towards Brighton!), Black Rock, Sandringham and Beaumaris.

    Further out of Melbourne (but worth the trip) - Ocean Grove, Sorrento Back Beach, Sorrento - Shelley Beach, Portsea Front Beach (& after a swim - lunch at Portsea Pub - best views !!!) Phillip Island - Gunnamatta 4 surfing!

    My favourites in the bay are Black Rock, Sandringham and Beaumaris. My favourite surfing beaches- Gunnamatta, Portsea ocean beach and Rye ocean beach.
