3. (noun) rotation, revolution, gyration
a single complete turn (axial or orbital)
"the plane made three rotations before it crashed"; "the revolution of the earth about the sun takes one year"
The Sun, earth/moon have a fixed point in space where each are bound to each other, this would be the center point of their rotation. The earth does rotate around the sun, rotates on it's own axis, rotates with the moon, and going farther out the sun and all of it's planets for one structure that rotates around the galaxy. They are linked by gravity and not insulated from each other.
If the earth was created without the sun it would still rotate unless it had equal pressure on all sides keeping it stationary in it's construction but and in this case it could not be formed in the first place. It needs unequal density for matter for come together and it results in a spinning mass of stored energy. So yes, you are right, If there was a area of higher mass but not all that large it is possible for a planet for form without a sun that could be called earth and would be rotating away, it's just not very likely.
But, There are brown dwarf stars that are really nothing more than a Jupiter type planet and never had the mass to truly become a full star and it has the same def. of a self rotating planet if there was not any other planets in it's influence. If Jupiter was alone it would fall into this realm of definitions. Weird huh? One min. it's a planet and the next it's a star.
They just like to call them Brown stars for definition sake. Really with no fusion they are not stars but planets. The earth and moon rotate around each other as well, the center of the rotation point isn't the center of the earth but a point of the center of it's axis of rotation exists just the same.
There is nothing really wrong with your question but with some other thinking going on in this question area, it shows you like to think outside the box and can actually learn complex ideas if you keep at it, very good.
You could say the earth self rotates with it's core. They both spin at different speeds and I doubt it stays in the exact center of the earth at all times either. The why of this is easy to figure out, I threw out a question to see if anyone would pickup on this and the effects it would have over the earths history but sadly no.
If there was no rotation bind between sun/earth or any planet then we would have not found any by the Stars movements that we used to first find other solar systems..
A bit long winded but I was bugged by the responses you got so I spelled it out as much as I could so anyone could pick up on it.

The answer is..
Very good question you have asked today.
I think your question should go like this...
If there were no Sun would the Earth be rotating on its axis, as well as orbiting round what....?
The planets like mercury, venus, earth, mars, jupiter ..... etc. are derived from the sun and all the planets are rotating on their axis with different speeds. As well as all planets are orbiting the sun?
ANSWER FOR "IF THE SUN IS NOT THERE" ?
If You have taken out the SUN from the center, would the the earth rotate ? Yes , it will keep on rotating on it's axis , but in total darkness , without life, without day and night etc. etc.
Your second part of the question about orbiting round the "ABSENT SUN" ? Yes it will keep on rotating as usual, but in darkness, without the life , without the day and night ... and without seasons, without calendar.... etc.
Earth will not "rush away" or "vanished anywhere" in the outer space ,
Earth will still follow the rotating & orbiting path. No difference in gravity, no difference in motion .

First, the earth does not rotate around the sun, it orbits. The earth rotates around its own north-south axis. For these reasons, if the earth did not orbit the sun, it would still rotate on its own axis, and there would still be night and day.

No, just no. If there were no sun the earth wouldnt have been formed in the first place, and if the sun disappeared it would travel in a straight line until it encountered another gravitational force.

The Sun, Earth, other planets, moons and asteroids all condensed out of the same large cloud of particles.
If there were no Sun condensing then those other objects would not have condensed either.
