45.90 second lap time at Daytona International Speedway is what speed in MPH?
Near the end of the movie Days of Thunder you hear Harry Hogge tell Cole Trickle "You're 47.01, leaders 45.90, you're running last." I know that a 47.01 lap time is 192 to 193 MPH in the draft but how fast is a 45.90 lap time in MPH?
I would like to know because since the repaving at Daytona last year I have seen lap times in practice for this years Daytona 500 in the 45.16 second range with a speed of 200.316 MPH in the draft. Now that's fast!

A 45.90 lap on a 2.5 mile track like Daytona equals 196.078 mph.
Speeds at the Bud Shootout last Saturday night topped 206 mph. That's what caused NASCAR to make changes to slow the cars this week. NASCAR is afraid of wrecking cars getting airborne and going into the stands. If one ever does make it into the stands in a wreck the lawsuits would make track liability insurance very difficult, if not impossible, to get. That could spell the end for racing at almost all levels.
