I don't see how you can get Zelda or Elfie from Elizabeth or why you would want people to call you either of those ridiculous names but if you want to then go for it...I think what people mean is that it's hard to suddenly get people to start calling you a different name than they always have and in most cases people will call you whatever variant of your name that they want. It would be a little easier to have a nickname if you went with Liz or Beth though.

Normally a nickname is from someones name. My name is emma people call me em. My daughters name is elizabeth we call her lizzy. Or we could call her beth,liz,liza, ellie, lee, or ell. If you are looking for a nickname that doesn't come from you first or middle name those normally come from friends.

You can do whatever you want. I know a girl named Katherine whose nickname is Amper.
