How easy will it be to get a visa to russia for the winter Olympics?

A few friends and I would like to go, but we're not sure if getting a visa will be a problem. One member of the group, his parents fled the USSR and came to america as refugees- will this cause a problem?

Update:

If it matters, we are all of Russian descent. Which is a main reason as to why we want to go.

Usually host countries of the Olympic Games or the soccer worlds championships lift the visa requirements in so far that athletes and officials accredited can travel with their Olympic accredition statements visa exempt. Visitors who can show valid tickets or tour arrangements can usually get a visa under simplified application procedures or on arrival in the country.

I hope Russia is following this tradition. Up to now nothing has been published..

At the moment nobody knows if the visa requirements will be lifted during the Winter Olympics or not.

Anyway, your circumstances will not cause any additional problems in getting your normal visa - unless you have a bad criminal record.

it does no longer be a competent theory to boycott the Olympics. it would in uncomplicated terms do harm to our Olympic athletes who've spent years guidance for this 2d, and for some this could be their first time. Russia's lifestyle isn't comparable to ours, they are greater conservative in recent times and liberals are actually not so prevalent over there. i hit upon it humorous how American media merchants declare that this one liberal opposition chief is Putin's considerable opposition, this is carefully fake. Putin's considerable opposition is the Soviet party itself, which their presidential nominee placed 2d interior the final election (yet did no longer come on the ingredient of thrashing Putin). Is it particularly our place to tell how Russia ought to habit its kin affairs? The Russian government isn't breaking any international regulation, that i'm conscious of, by utilising banning gay satisfaction parades and rallies.

I also came to USA as refugee 20 years ago. But from today's Ukraine It did not stopped me from going back couple of times (for sorrow reason though-to visit my mom grave), first time I had to have visa (no big deal), second time I did not need one. I do hope Russia changes its approach toward visa policy, I heard it is huge headache. Good luck!
