Because then they don't have to take any responsibility for their own actions. They can either blame it on the Devil, or rely on their imaginary scapegoat to take away all of their 'sins', thus giving them a sense of justification and a sense of self-righteous immunity from the consequences of their poor decisions.

Because why accept the blame when you can blame it on a minority who can't do anything about it?Bad, I know, but that's the way the world is today, and if people were more forgiving people wouldn't use scapegoats

that way the theists dont have to take responsibility for their own actions. as long as they ask for forgiveness even a mass murderer will get into heaven
