What are some breeds of small dogs?

I want to get a tiny dog, can anyone tell me any breeds other than a chihuahua. I don't mind if it's cross breeds or anything like that. The smaller the better. Already have a cat and a big dog so don't tell me to go get a cat or a big dog or a rat etc...

Thanks.

Update:

Thank you everyone for your help,

But for those who told me to google it - every answer on Yahoo Answers could be googled, if you want to be like that. I have googled small dog breeds but it takes a lot less time this way and I also get more specific information instead of having to trawl the internet for it. That's the whole point of Yahoo Answers.

Affenpinscher : a spunky pal, these dogs are best for active, alpha owners

Brussels Griffon : An amusing companion with a terrier personality, make sure he knows you're the leader of the pack.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel : a charmer who gets along with just about everyone - people, dogs and other pets.

Chihuahua : a Doberman brain in the tiniest of dog bodies! Can be long or short haired.

Chinese Crested : If you want attention, this is the dog.

English Toy Spaniel : If you can't live with an English Toy Spaniel, you can't live with any dog.

Havanese : This lively and outgoing companion fits in well even if there are other animals already in the family.

Italian Greyhound : He likes (even demands) an occasional run and is as fast as his name suggests.

Japanese Chin : He looks like a spaniel but his behavior is catlike without the attitude.

Maltese : The classic lady's lapdog, he can lift the spirits of any dog lover.

Manchester Terrier : Think terrier, not lap dog.

Miniature Pinscher : No, this is not a smaller version of the Doberman Pinscher, and he actually predates that breed. Known as the "MinPin," he sees himself as the Pinscher, not the Miniature.

Papillon : Don't let his big ears deter you! This is one of the gentlest and sweetest of the breeds.

Pekingese : There's no doubt who will be king or queen of this household, and he'll consider your lap his throne.

Pomeranian : Famous vet Dr. Bruce Foogle calls him a "superb companion." Ideal for former cat owners who want to get a dog.

Pug : Playful or serious, he loves company and may sulk if you exclude him from your activities. Don't overfeed him, however, he can turn into a butterball.

Shih Tzu : A charmer who loves attention and sitting in your lap. While he's there, groom his double coat with a steel comb and bristle brush.

Silky Terrier : A dog who is more terrier than Toy and considerably scrappier than his

    more-refined cousin, the Yorkshire Terrier.

    Here's a few of many : )

Toy Fox Terrier : The energy of a terrier and the size and minimal maintenance of a Toy breed. He'll play with you all day and then sit in your lap at night.

Toy Poodle : Smart - very, very smart. Avoid misbehaviors and chronic barking by keeping him mentally engaged. Toy Poodles are the reason for the old saying, "a good dog is a tired dog."

Yorkshire Terrier : The most successful YUPPEY in dogdom. From a scuffy past as a rat catcher, today's beauty is possibly the most overprotected and indulged dog in America.

    Hi Peter,

If you're looking for small dog breeds, there are many endless varieties. But, since you mentioned you have a cat, and another dog, here are some that would do well in your situation.

    ~Medium Dogs~

    - Shiba Inu (Catlike behavior and structure; 17 - 23 pounds.)

    - Beagles (Known to be very great with cats; 18 - 35 pounds.)

    - Cocker Spaniel (These dogs are known to have rage syndrome, not my first pick; 24 - 30 pounds.)

    ~Small Dogs~

    - Bichon Frise (Needs often grooming if you want to maintain good looks; 10 - 20 pounds.)

    - Chinese Crested (Hairless ones require sweaters in winter to keep warm; 10 - 13 pounds.)

Now there are more...many more, but it's better to know what NOT to get, as most any breed can be trained to like a cat. So here are small (because you aren't considering large) ones you shouldn't think about:

(All of these are not recommended as they are highly prey driven.)

    - Basenji

    - Greyhound (Some range small)

    - Jack Russell Terrier

    - Samoyed

    - Whippet

    - Yorkshire Terrier

    Hope this helps! Good luck.

Well what kind of big dog do you have? Make sure that this new small dog isn't full of itself or big doggie might put it in its place. Basically all little dogs bark a lot including: Dachshund, yorkie, sheltie, rat terrier, beagle, maltese, bichon frise. Go for a french bull dog if leaning more towards a breeder. They get a lot of attention on the street.

    Shih Tzu

    Pug

    Maltese

    Lhaso Apso

    Cocker Spaniel

You'd probably find a lot of small cross breeds in a shelter or something :)

    Good luck

    Yorkie Terrier

    Beagle

    Daschund

    Maltese

    Poodle

    Boston Terrier

    Miniature Pinscher

Any breed with the name "toy" or "teacup" in it.

Small dogs are considered small when they are 22 pounds or less. My poodle-terrier is 8 pounds. It's so handy to be able to pick him up. He can even fly with me on the airplane.
