Virtual Desktop question?

Is there a virtual desktop that can be used that can actually boot into the guest operating system without the host operating system being on. I know someone might say "dual boot" or "install the os you want" but my laptop is unable to downgrade to windows xp from windows 7 because of some driver issues.

you mean something that can host a guest OS while running.

then you'd go for oracle vm virtual box, or virtual machine if you have windows 7 professional or higher x64 preferably, but i think it runs on x32

otherwise, if you mean boot only one OS, then make an HDD partition and install the second OS on it.

Yes if your laptop has usb boot option. There is plenty of linux os which you can boot from pen drive. But i am not sure about booting windowsxp from a pen drive. Check the link below. Good Luck
