All formulas are really not ideal for infants. All are a very distant second to breastmilk and are merely adequate foods.
And soy formula is even further removed from breastmilk than cows-milk based formulas; cows are at least mammals ... soybeans are plants.
There is also some concern that extensive intake of soy (esp. in early childhood) may have a long term effect on the hormones, and could increase the risk of infertility or certain types of cancer.
All of which means that soy should ONLY be used if baby cannot be breastfed AND cannot tolerate milk-based formula AND hypoallergenic formulas (Alimentum) are not an option. Did your doctor recommend soy? Why? If baby is allergic to cows milk, Enfamil, which is a milk-based formula, would not be an option.

Unless your doctor told you to put your baby on soy you shouldnt. But I have never heard that, my daughter was switched to soy at 2 months old via her doctor.
