I own 6 bikes. 4 of them are Buells, and I'm considering buying another one right now. I have found them to be very dependable, and two of them have been to the race-track. They are selling at low prices because Harley-Davidson only has to ensure parts availability until 7 years from the date of closing, which was in October, 2009. On the other hand, I have always found the prices of Buell parts to be surprisingly low. Examples: XB9/12 turn-signals @ $10, including bulbs; XB/1125R front brake rotor @ $100; XB/1125R Wheels @ $333; foot-pegs @ $25.
Buell became wholly owned by Harley-Davidson, and they closed the division. Harley-Davidson's sales were down about 30%, and profits were down about 85%! Being a publicly-owned company (traded on the stock-market), they had to make some radical changes to show their shareholders that they were not taking these numbers lying down. They decided to shut Buell down and sell MV Agusta, in order to "concentrate on their core business".
Erik Buell is currently converting customer-owned 1125R's and turning them into race-bikes, with three performance levels available. He operates under the company name, "Eric Buell Racing", since the "Buell Motorcycle Company" name is owned by H-D. He intends to get back into production of complete bikes, now that the 1-year non-compete agreement with Harley has elapsed. His plans are to go upscale with more of a "boutique" brand (and price). I'm not so sure that's a good place to go.
If and when Erik Buell gets back into building street-bikes, I'll probably be lining up for one--or more--especially if there is a Canadian dealership network. I'm keeping my ear to the ground!

Buell has some good bikes, but the models with the Harley engines in it are mediocre at best, more of a Harley that's uncomfortable to ride than the actual Harleys. however there bikes without Harley engines are good. especially the 2008-2009 1125R where they use a Rotax engine pumping out more than 140 horse and with a large power band. I have also heard good things about there enduro motorcycles and how reliable they are. Also Buell is not discontinued they are just not sponsored by Harley anymore and are still producing bikes just not in as great of numbers,

The Buell was designed by Eric Buell to compete against Ducati and others in road racing. He did so well with them that Harley bought him out. They use a Sportster motor, which is a pretty bullet-proof affair in it's current form. The Blast uses the front half of an 1100 cc Sportster motor, resulting in less power, more vibration, and many victories in the 500cc class. Anybody who tells you that the Harley Sportster engine is junk should google the name Chris Carr. He has taken top honors in flat track / dirt track on the 1 mile oval with them for years.

I took the Harley Davidson Rider's Edge course on a Buell Blast. I hated that bike. The clutch was not friendly for smaller hands and it rattled like bb in a boxcar. Perhaps the other models are better.

They are great bikes if thet it is what you want. You can thank %%$#hole Kieth Wandell CEO of HD for discontinuing them.any of them from 1998-2010 are good bikes,The 1125r is nice but might be hard to find a good mechanic for them since they were only made three years. That is the only reason I dont own one

That happens when a company getting all its funding removed:

Nothing about a Harley has ever been dependable. I love big twins, and as much as I wanted one of these, I had to keep telling myself that it's still just a Harley.
They sound great, they have a very distinct look, but log a few hours in the Buell Forums before you pull the trigger.

Only the one with the non Harley engine. Don't know why you would want to buy a bike that is going to have parts problems.
