I'll be in Berlin for a few days in May. What is the best way to get around? day tickets? Passes etc?
Is it best to buy a weekly ticket or multi-trip ticket, day passes etc? I am not familiar with the travel system in Berlin. I'll have a few days free while at a conference.
Thanks

Dude you will have fun.
If you are just looking to visit places around Berlin, then simply walk or use the Bohn (train).
I was in Koln over December and all we did was either walk to the bars, shopping, etc or take the Bohnhof if it was a little further than we thought...
The German Bohn is much different than any American train or subway. It it more like a cross between the Japanesse bullet-train (for speed and looks) and an airport's tram system (for efficiency, cleanliness, and self-managability).
A Bohn card cost about 20-40 Euros per month and gives you unlimited access to the Bohn, or you can just pay 1-3 euros for just a ride by itself... OR you can just risk the 75 euro fine and chance getting caught (it is largely automated system and American Soldiers do it all the time :)
Enjoy your stay in Germany and do visit often, it is such a wonderful country!

Depends how many days and where and how often you intend to travel.
Best check out on the site of BVG it is available in English.
The German rail ( deutsche Bahn ) is not used to get around a city but to travel from one city to another.
The Bahn card is available in two versions one gives 25 % discount the other 50 % discount but not unlimited access to all trains.

While in Berlin, I bought a pass to get on every train and bus.
Berlin has tour by buses, spree (water), bicycle, and foot.
Take some of these tours and decide the places that you would like to go back to visit.
Here are some places that I saw in Berlin: Reichstag, Alexanderpl, Berlin Wall, Check point Charlie, Berliner Dom, Tiergarten, Brandenburg Tor, Church Kaiser Wilhelm Gedachtnis Kirche, Alexanderplaz, Gendarmenmarkt Square, Holocost Memoria, Neue Synagoge Berlin Centrum Judaicum, Sony Center, Schloss Bellevue Palace, and Schloss Charlottenburg.
If you have time, take the train down to Potsdam. It is known for its castles.
