Is the VA Hospital considered a monopoly? If so what kind, and how did it become a monopoly?

    The VA hospital system is run by the US Department of Veterans Affairs, so in a sense it is a monopoly. There are also clinics and sometimes agreements with private clinics and hospitals where there are no VA facilities.

    No. Veterans don't have to use the VA. Most do because for many decades those enlisting in service were guaranteed healthcare for life.Vets that can't afford a private insurance plan can get their medical care at the VA.
