Is there such thing of a travel photojournalist?

I'm in high school now and already thinking ahead. I wanna be a photojournalist, and my friend gave me an idea of traveling around the world. So i was wondering if there is such thing as a travel photojournalist. If there is, who are some that succeed in this career? :) and if we go to college, what courses should we take?

Sounds like a fun job but I hate to tell you that there is probably very little chance of making a real living taking pictures around the world. Sure there are a few high profile people who do such work such as the great photogs at National Geographic but your chances of actually getting one of those jobs is about as good as the average high school football player getting drafted by an NFL team. It's possible but not very probable. I REALLY hate to put down someone else's dream but as someone who is probably a little older than most people here I can tell you from life experience that you'll eventually have to pay the bills. Unfortunately, the most lucrative careers involve lots and lots of math and/or science. Most of us have to learn to save our real passions for hobbies.

If I were you I'd contact some of the photographers from National Geographic or Conde Nast magazines. Check out their websites and I'm sure you can find an email address or two. Correspond with people actually in the field and get a first hand account of their experiences and their takes on what your chances are. I sincerely hope you find a way!

There are lots of travel writers. Check out any big city Sunday newspaper. It will have a travel section. There are travel magazines, like Conde Nast Traveler. Sunset is a travel magazine covering the western U.S. AAA publishes a travel magazine for its members. Start reading some of those. Go to your library and check them out or look at them online. Photojournalism is very competitive field. You can get information about this field from looking at a current edition of Writer's Market, or visit the website for the Society of Professional Journalists. Their website is www.spj.org/

the full answer on your question really you'll recognize. because the 'surprising' type of imagery is a own decision really you'll recognize. you may love taking snap shots and hate landscapes or vise versa. the stress component is likewise in accordance on your own decision. in case you adore taking weddings then this heavily isn't as stessful to you because it will be to someone who hates portrait or journey images. the money, nicely, that's baased on how nicely your images are and how frustrating you artwork. To me, panorama and go back and forth images is the most relaxing type of imagery yet may be the least worthwhile at situations and the hardest to interrupt into. nonetheless hiking 30 miles into the desert to seize a sundown scene or residing on your vehicle for months to finish a photo documentary is exciting and relaxing to me, to others it will be a nightmare. For me that's about the journey. Yeah it will be tremendous to make alot of money from my pastime, yet mutually that's a daunting theory because the 'hardships' persay is what makes the journey. If i can make basically sufficient to stay off of and proceed my pastime (inspite of if which potential i'm residing in my vehicle or low priced lodges), i'd be the happiest guy on earth.
