i found a fledgling and it disappeared?
my cat brought i a baby bird that must have fallen out of the tree. Shes to old to get up the tree. I put the baby in a pot to take it to a bird rehabilitation the next day. I put it onto the balcony thats bricked in and it couldnt fall, never mind get out th pot it seemed unhurt. I was just worried it would have a heart attack. this morning i looked and it gone. how did it get out of the pot or off the balcony? can the mother carry it away. its an upstairs balcony so i dont think another cat got it. it could flap a bit and leave the ground but it couldn't fly yet

Rats can walk up walls and climb bricks. Hawks and other predatory birds can fly in and take baby birds. I think you needed a cage around that pot you put it in. The baby is lunch now for some other creature....I am sorry.

Sorry to steal any ray of hope you may still have, but mother birds don't pick up and carry their young. If one even falls out of the nest to another branch lower down, it is often abandoned by its parents.
If the bird disappeared from your balcony then it would have been taken by a cat or rat, but most likely it was taken by another bird. It may have been a bird of prey but it your primary suspect would be a scavenger like a Crow.
Regardless of what took it, it was eaten.

Well, now that you let your cat catch a baby bird and let it be taken by a predator, I hope your cat will remain where it belongs, in the house! They're a real pest for wildlife when you let them roam free.

Most likely he was carried away by something, the mother certainly could have done it, or any other predator.
