The Oscars are obscene aren't they?
We have massive unemployment, revolutions all over the middle east, and hundreds have been killed in New Zealand and we are supposed to care who is wearing who? These overpaid celebrities will tell us how to vote, what obscure country to send our hard earned money to and how we are destroying the planet while they jet around the world.

There's room in this world for both frivolity and serious news. I don't like that we worship movie stars, but the fact remains that many do, hence why stars get paid to endorse products.
I personally think the most tasteless part of the Oscars is the tribute to dead stars. It sucks to hear huge rounds of applause for icons and then have it die down when they show somebody who starred in some films from the '30s and '40s whom few people remember. If the Oscars had some class, they would ask for a moment of silence while the montage was played.

I think the Oscars are a big farce, but not for the same reasons.
I don't like them because there is too much politicking going on
in the process.
I much prefer the People's Choice Awards or the Golden Globe Awards
as you don't have to kiss the Academy's collect butt to get one.
