Will the government shutdown affect benefits for current beneficiaries of medicare?

Your question is a bit off base. The provider your Dad has is still open and they may get a delayed reimbursement from Medicare but they wont close down or cancel scheduled surgeries. The shutdown is for some government departments and agencies and does not affect hospitals and doctors treatments.
