Bible Scholars - Does the Bible really say the world will end?

Mat 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

>>Translated "Verily I say unto you, my disciples standing in front of me right now, your generation will not pass until I have fulfilled all"

Mat 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

"Heaven and earth (where God and man meet, the temple)" Read article 'Jacob's Vision' http://www.racheladelman.com/

Use the word "Temple" in place of "Heaven and earth" and one will get a better understanding of those scriptures. (The Temple did pass away in AD 70, in the disciples generation) The new "Heaven and earth" spoken of in Revelation is the "Temple of God in us"

1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Update:

Revelation is the book that all go to:

1. It was not written to our generation.

2. It is about Jesus coming in judgment, not on us but upon the unrighteous Jews in Jesus' time.

3. Fire coming down was how the Roman army destroyed Jerusalem.

4. Jesus said over and over "I come quickly" (that does not mean 1000's of years later)

Update 2:

Felix - Thousand in Greek means "uncertain affinity" or 'unknown length of time' . It happened after John pinned the words of Revelation. New heaven and earth is the Temple of God in us.

Update 3:

Jack - Understanding is more that just the words. It is important to understand who the audience is.

Mat 16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Jesus is talking to his disciples, and he is telling them "there be some standing here, which shall not taste death, till they see"

I found this portion of an article that talks about that question you have. If you want the whole article, email me:

When Would “the Time of the End” Start?

After he received a preview of events that would occur far in the future, the prophet Daniel was told: “During that time [“the time of the end” mentioned at Daniel 11:40] Michael [Jesus Christ] will stand up, the great prince who is standing in behalf of the sons of your people.” (Daniel 12:1) What would Michael do?

The book of Revelation speaks of the time when Michael would be active as King. It states: “War broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels battled with the dragon, and the dragon and its angels battled but it did not prevail, neither was a place found for them any longer in heaven. So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth; he was hurled down to the earth, and his angels were hurled down with him. On this account be glad, you heavens and you who reside in them! Woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil has come down to you, having great anger, knowing he has a short period of time.”—Revelation 12:7-9, 12.

Bible chronology indicates that this battle, cleansing the heavens of Satan and his demons, would result in great woe for the earth because of the Devil’s anger at knowing that his time left for ruling the earth was short. His anger would increase during the last days until his total defeat at the war of Armageddon.—Revelation 16:14, 16; 19:11, 15; 20:1-3.

After mentioning the outcome of that heavenly battle, the apostle John declared: “I heard a loud voice in heaven say: ‘Now have come to pass the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ, because the accuser of our brothers has been hurled down, who accuses them day and night before our God!’” (Revelation 12:10) Did you note the announcement of the Kingdom’s establishment under Christ? Yes, that heavenly Kingdom was installed in 1914. However, as Psalm 110:2 indicates, Jesus would be ruling “in the midst of [his] enemies” until the time when Kingdom rule would exercise dominion over the earth as it has done in heaven.—Matthew 6:10.

Interestingly, the angel who told the prophet Daniel of the events to come also stated: “As for you, O Daniel, make secret the words and seal up the book, until the time of the end. Many will rove about, and the true knowledge will become abundant.” (Daniel 12:4) This provides additional evidence that we are now in “the time of the end.” Knowledge of the meaning of these prophecies has already been made clear and is now being proclaimed worldwide.

GOD wrote the new testament in the Greek language because it was an explicit language. there is no way to misinterpret the Greek language. what the Greek says in matthew 24 is that when you see these prophecies start to happen then the generation that sees them begin will not pass away till christ returns. we must also realize that christ was talking to jewish men. he is telling them what will be happening to the jewish people in the end times. this time period is known as "jacobs trouble". he warns them to flee to petra when the antichrist comes to power. don't even take time to go inside to get a coat. the end time prophecies could not start until there was a land of israel in existence. this happened in 1948 and the end time prophecies began. will the world end---of course it will. the bible says it will. but chronologically there is a lot that is going to happen first. according to the prophecies we are nearing the end of this "age"{ the church age} the rapture will take place and then the antichrist will come to power. we are seeing today the world realigning to be ready for globalization and a one world government. will the world end ?????? the bible says it will but not till after the 7 year reign of the antichrist and then the 1000 year reign of christ. then we read that the heavens and earth will pass away and a new earth and heaven will appear. read the last two chapters of revelation to see how it all ends-----very comforting to read !!!!!!!!!!!

At Revelation 21:1 the apostle John was shown in vision a new heaven and earth. What was Jesus Christ revealing to him? (Revelation 1:1) John's vision refers to the passing away of 'the former heaven and the former earth.'. (Compare Rev 20:11) In the [New Testament], earthly governments and their peoples are shown to be subject to Satanic rule, (Mt 4:8, 9; John 12:31; 2Co 4:3, 4; Re 12:9; 16:13, 14) The apostle Paul referred to "the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places," with their governments, authorities, and world rulers. (Eph 6:12) So the passing away of "the former heaven" indicates the end of political governments along with Satan and his demons. This identification of the former heaven harmonizes with the fact that shortly before the statement concerning the former heaven having passed away, John had seen a vision of the complete defeat of Satan's forces and the casting of Satan into the abyss. (Re 19:19-2020:3) The earthly subjects of Satan's rule are destroyed prior to his abyssing, as shown at Revelation 19:17, 18. The description of a fiery destruction of heaven and earth at 2 Peter 3:7-12 corresponds to the visions in Revelation. Therefore the world of wicked, reblellious mankind with be destroyed. Not the literal earth (Isaiah 45:18)

In Revelation chapter 20 it says that Jesus will reign for 1,000 years after the tribulation period and satan is locked up and then at some point at the end of the 1,000 years, satan will be released for a short time to try to sway people away from God. Satan will gather his army of evil angels and people and this is when Jesus defeats them at the battle of Gog and Magog. Then will come the final judgment, then after that, God (Jesus) will create a new heaven and a new earth. (see chapter 21)

Christian Identity adherents believe in the inevitability of the end of the world and the Second Coming of Christ. The view of what Armageddon will be varies among Christian Identity believers. All contend that there will be a race war in which millions will die; These End Times events are seen as part of a cleansing process that is needed before Christ's kingdom can be established on earth

    Don't be too smart.

This world as we know it shall be destroyed (purged) by FIRE.

The Heavens surrounding and Earth as we know it shall pass away...

A NEW EARTH will be Created By Christ Jesus and the New Heaven.. called New Jerusalem shall come down from HEAVEN where ISRAEL'S Jerusalem is now.

Be certain of that The earth shall be purged by FIRE and A new created.

No, it does not. Wouldn't it be handy if there was something similar: "Verily I say unto you, life will be utterly destroyed on the Gregorian calender date of June 6, 6666."

Depending on the dogma you consider as legitimate it has been said that the world will be consumed by fire. Now the event can be the sun collapsing and it is known as fact when that happens the sun increases its mass and have the potential to “consume” planets. That said when it implodes it will create a black hole and suck everything into it converting anything and everything into heat. But humanity will end long before that happens.
