Why does everyone want Colonel Gaddafi to resign as leader of Libya?
Ok,
So I've seen a few news reports about troubles brewing in Libya, then today I read the UK has now frozen British-help assets of Gaddafi and his family as well as withdrawing their diplomatic immunity. It seems that the whole world wants him out of power. I'm probably way off the mark, but to me it seems like an internal political dispute that is turning into a civil war. Why is everyone other country getting involved? He does not have weapons of mass destruction or threatened anyone outside of his own boarders. Is this another case of wanting to control oil and/or setting up a puppet government or something?
Thanks

He is killing his own people, using imported mercenaries to retain stronghold in key cities. He has threatened to do a Saddam and set fire to Libya's significant oil production fields. It's all about Gaddafi and nothing to do with the people he has tortured for daring to disagree with him. Human rights for the people of Libya would be a good start.

what i find interesting is the speed at which Cameron sent William Hague to Tunisia the second the government was toppled, even more alarming was Cameron visiting Egypt just as the leader was ousted. I think the prime minister is just trying to create a mini empire once more.
One important aspect of this crisis is the fact that the European Union acted on its own and very fast, it was first to impose sanctions and done all the back room dealings. Normally in the past the procedure was to see what the USa do and copy. Now the USA needs to get updated from the EU rather than the other way around.

The world turned against him when he turned the guns on his own protesting people.
Dictators who murder their people lose all legitimacy and should be deposed.
His regime has always been brutal, and he has funded some pretty nasty groups around the world. There is no reason why you would want him to stay around.

He is a terrorist and is now killing his own, unarmed people. Yes, he has threatened and killed people outside his own country, including the Pan Am flight he ordered blown up and the night club he had bombed. He probably ordered attacks that we don't know about yet.

Firing on unarmed peaceful protesters has that effect. This isn't St. Petersburg in 1905.
