Parakeet that avoids using legs?

For the past few days my female parakeet has been acting ill...

She's using her beak more to move around in the cage

She is slightly lethargic but not "too" sick to fight me picking her up

She leans on the side of the cage to perch

When perching, she slouches

Her feathers are ruffled as if she has a respiratory issue

Tries to use her wings to pick herself up

She sleeps a lot

Prefers to lie at the bottom of the cage, but eats like normal.

She...

has never layed eggs

shares the cage with a male parakeet

is a caged bird who is relatively comfortable with me.

What could be the problem?

Should i give the birds a nest? (I have tried making a minature nest but they were afraid of it.)

Please and thank you!

You have a serious problem ,if your bird is unable to use it's legs, this could be a number of things Poisoned seed . Contaminated with mice /rat urine.check your seed source.this is one cause of semi paralysis in birds.

What age is she?has she had a bump to her head?

It would be advise able to contact an avian vet,or a rescue centre they have vets that will not charge or a donation for the help and advice.///

At my house these symptoms would be an emergency and require a visit to my avian vet. The fact that you have let this continue for days tells me you don't realize that by the time you, the owner, have noticed symptoms the animal has been sick for a while. And for heaven's sake, you never offer nesting possibilities to a pet bird that is sick. That makes no sense. For birds to nest they need to be at the height of good health. Parakeets nest in appropriately sized wooden boxes not "a miniature nest" built by their owner.

No one here can diagnose or treat your sick bird. At best a few folks have enough experience w birds to take a semi-educated guess at what could/couldn't be wrong but what good would that do your bird? Everyone would say you need to get your pet to the bird doc right way. The poor thing probably needs treatment of some kind, not more stress by being expected to nest and certainly no more time wasted while you wait for some sort of answer on this forum. Go to the vet w your bird today if you really care. If not that, then your only option is to watch what happens. I'm just say'n. I'll be wishing the best for your pet birdie & you, good luck.

Sounds very similar to what occurred to my mothers canary. But by the point she had located hers it used to be too past due. I eliminated the band, however we checked on him later within the day and his leg had all started to bleed. I implemented a few styptic powder to quit the bleeding. The subsequent day the leg had grew to become black. We took him out of the gigantic flight cage and placed him in a small cage so he might be remoted. After approximately per week he began utilizing the perches once more, however his leg in no way acquired greater. I consider he ultimately misplaced the complete leg. He continues to be consuming, making a song, and getting across the first-rate he can. The different canaries attempts to choose on him, however the Zebra finch that's within the cage will chase off the opposite birds who attempted to choose on the unhealthy leg. Don't wrap the leg. You would get anything you might wrap it with too tight and might rationale extra harm. Just hold a watch on him. If his leg turns black, there is not any saving it. As lengthy as he maintains consuming and happening along with his ordinary events, he's going to customarily be good enough.

Forget the normal Vet, what she really needs is an Avian Vet <---( A vet that specializes in birds) since most normal vets have little or no experience when it comes to dealing with birds ( in general ) and their many problems. Like the other person said, separate the two parakeets into 2 different cages in case what she has is contagious to birds.

Veterinarian. All i Can say Really.. BUT I Recommend Separating her From your Other Budgies as She Could Have Some Disease or Virus that May be Contagious. All In All I Hope your Budgie Recovers God Bless 'xx
