Just because something is legal does not make it right.
Protesting at a soldier's funeral may be legal but it is also a very unchristian thing to do.
It goes against the Christian spiritual works of mercy to console and comfort and the corporal work of mercy to bury the dead.
There are times and places for peaceful demonstrations but a soldier's funeral is not one of them.
With love in Christ.

I don't think that it should have been a 8-1 decision. i think it should have been a 9-0 for the snyder family.
if the first amendment is supposedly supposed to protect freedom of speech but also freedom of religion, then the amount of violence and pressure that this stupid, ignorant church puts on people who do not share the same beliefs erodes their freedom of religion. at the point where they are clearly eroding other people's RIGHT TO THE FREEDOM of religion by constant harassment beyond normal means, i think they should be stopped. its either let 71 inbred crazy, ignorant people who will most likely end up going to hell (its mostly that 1 guy's whole family, lol inbred hypocritical assholes) get freedom of speech or destroy freedoms of other religions and social groups. and they are even destroying their children's freedom by crafting them into believing their evil beliefs and a faith that has so many holes in the story.
plus they are assholes. if somebody did that at my funeral i would've wanted a riot to break out. maybe call up the Jewish Defense League to shut them up and tie them to a tree and invite gay people to dance around them.

No matter how much I hate what WBC preaches, and their total lack of sensitivity to their fellow humans, they conduct their protests in a lawful manner. The court ruling was the right thing to do. That doesn't mean everyone thinks what they have to say is right or that we agree with them.
If we expect their rights to freedom of speech and lawful protest to be taken away, then we must be willing to give up these rights for ourselves, for all Americans. I'm not willing to lose these rights. Are you?
The best thing we can do as a nation is ignore them. Giving them so much attention online and in the media is exactly what they want. Even bad publicity is publicity, and it aids them in getting their messages across.

Not really. They might be vindicated by the laws of the U.S. Constitution, but that does NOT mean that they are behaving ethically OR morally -- just legally.
These vile and venomous people hate everything and everyone; in the name of religion...of course.
I think they are despicable, but they have First Amendment rights the same as the rest of us.
We cannot pick and choose who gets First Amendment rights, no matter how badly we disagree with them.

answer: vindicated? Not really. Its more a case of being able to hide behind the very freedoms they would love to take away from others.
Religions have always been used as an excuse to commit violence: attacks against minorities, against Caucasians, abortion clinics, businesses, airlines, etc - have all been done in the name of one religion or another.

I for one am very very glad that the USA has such strong free speech rights. Sure everyone hates the WBC, but if you limit their speech, what's next? People who complain about the government? Better to allow it all (with obvious exceptions like incitement to violence or yelling fire in a crowded theatre)...

Westboro is abhorred by other Christian groups. They are sadly mistaken if the think they are doing the Lord's work.

The Supreme Court re-affirmed our Constitutional right to free speech. This includes the members of the WBC. It defies logic to suggest that this would lead to any violence.

No, what was validated was the freedom of speech. Even stupid hateful speech is protected. It is up to the hearer to decide to reject it or not. The SC just said that the GOVERNMENT cannot decide if you can decide to hear it or not.
