Is the Michigan / Michigan State game basically an NCAA play-in?

With 18 and 17 wins respectively, is this weekend's Michigan / Michigan State game a must-win for both teams?

No, without a doubt not. Michigan just enter the bubble discussion. MSU does not need to win this game to get into the dance. They are about a 10 seed right now which actually gives them a little cushion. This game is also on the road for them. If MSU loses to UM and then goes on to beat Illinois in the B10 tournament they should be fine. Lose to UM and Illinois I put them on them on the bubble. The main reason MSU is fine is because they had one of the hardest schedule and shouldn't be punished for that reason. Now UM is completely on the other end of the spectrum. They just got in the talk of being on the bubble. They need to beat MSU and have a good showing in the tournament.

  • If, MSU win, they can stay in 4th spot in the Big 10.
