What if the NFL changed its playoff seeding based off of pure win-loss record only?

I still believe that winning a division matters.They should be given an automatic spot in the playoffs.Yet that should not mean they get a home game over a team that has a better record then them.Keep the system as it is now.Once the teams are set then you set the seedings by record.SO this year the Seahawks would have been a 6th seed but still in the playoffs

It would become the NBA. I've been a San Antonio Spurs fan my whole life, and until a few years ago in high school, I didn't even know the NBA had divisions, because all I would hear about were the Eastern and Western Conferences. Now, I couldn't tell you off the top of my head who is in the Spurs' division in the NBA (I will assume that the Rocket, Mavericks, and Thunder are), but I do know who is in the Western Conference and in the Eastern Conference. Some people are just upset that the Seahawks made the playoffs at 7-9, I'm pretty sure its never happened before, and it may never happen again, who knows. There is no perfect system, but I would say the NFL and MLB are much closer to perfect that the NBA, where every year at least one team under .500 makes the playoffs.

I would like it to be that if a division winner was below .500 the spot would instead be some a wild card, which would be granted to the best of the wild card teams, the second best wild card team would also be moved up and the 6th seed would be made a 3rd wild card spot.

It's fine the way it is. Winning your division should count for something, even if it's a weak division.

If you don't want to go on the road as a wild card, then win your division. Simple as that.
