Is stainless steel recyclable?

I have a stainless steel pan that I want to put in the trash, but I am thinking if I should put into the recycle bin or not.

Update:

I burned it. Can't use it anymore... thanks though.

It is recyclable but your general waste management company may not recycle it. It depends on where you live but your best chance is to bring it to a scrap metal yard. They take all types of metals, even mixes of iron and steel. My brother's really into collecting people's unwanted scrap metal and recycling it for the money- especially copper is really expensive, he makes a pretty penny on peoples trash!

HOWEVER, have you tried cleaning the pan? Stainless steel is actually pretty easy to clean, simmer a mix of normal white vinegar, water and baking soda in a clean pan, then pour it onto your burnt pan and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Scrub either with a stiff brush or a scrubby pad. It really works wonders!

    Good luck!

Stainless steel can be recycled 100%. That is all stainless steel can be re-melted to made a new stainless steel. The typical amount of recycled stainless steel "scrap" that is used to make new stainless steel is between 65 & 80%.

Recently, stainless steel recycling markets continues to stabilize. It goes further, with high-rise market, increase of procurement, speed of shipments. It is understood that stainless steel recycling market has been steady day by day. No trend shows it goes down. Recycling stainless steel becomes more active transaction, and it goes higher trend. The high turnover of the company, a good buy to sell, market is very broad. Thus the price is higher every day along with the market; sellers feel the high enthusiasm, take easy for sales.

If you mean just putting it in the general recycling bin out the front of your house then no, its not recyclable. However, there are companies who recycle stainless steel but this is generally for things on a larger scale. What I recommend: Give it to a charity that sells stuff for a cause and that way you'll be helping someone. Or just keep it and make some delicious eggs :3

Stainless steel is expensive stuff. You should get some money when you give it to the recyclers.

I'm sure it's recyclable. There are two types of stainless steel - ferrous and non-ferrous. I reuse my non-ferrous pots because it does not rust. Great for catching water under a live potted plant or dogie water dish. If a magnet sticks to it, it will rust and it's a ferrous stainless steel pan or pot.

If you have a recycling center, it is put in the iron storage area, if they take iron metals, they will take it.

Scrape metal recyclers will take it if they take other things like aluminium, brass, or copper.
