Should I make pancakes from scratch or use a mix from the supermarket?
I would like it to taste good but then again I don't want to spend ages making them.

Scratch pancakes only take as long is it takes to measure the ingredients and stir them.
And they taste better and fresher.

Scratch takes no longrer, really, than a mix. And the end result is SO MUCH BETTER! Try this one. It's the only one we use here at my house.
The Best Buttermilk Pancakes
2 cups Buttermilk**
3 eggs, room temp
6 Tbsp butter, melted
2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
Put the buttermilk, egg and melted butter in a mixing bowl. Stir briskly until the mixture is smooth and blended.
Stir the flour, salt and baking soda together in a small bowl. Stir into the buttermilk mixture only until the dry ingredients are moistened - leave the smaller lumps.
Heat a skillet or griddle to medium hot. Grease lightly and spoon out a 3 TBLS of batter per pancake. Cook until a few bubbles form on top and break. Flip the pancake over and cook until golden brown..not too long.
These are the best pancakes and nothing else will compare after having these!!! Enjoy.
Makes about 12-15 pancakes.
**To make your own buttermilk, add 4 tsp of lemon juice or vinegar to a scant 2 cups of milk, stir, and let sit at room temp for 15-30 min. Stir again before adding to recipe.

Scratch pancakes only take as long is it takes to measure the ingredients and stir them.
You have to open the pancake mix, measure that and stir as well.
You save maybe 1 minute, possibly a minute and 1/2 if you are slow...
A basic pancake recipe from scratch is flour, leavening, egg, oil a bit of seasoning(salt or vanilla or both) and a fluid. Water or milk work just fine but I prefer milk.
There are literally hundreds of pancake recipes on line or in your cook books you have.
If you have all the ingredients and a fairly organized kitchen, you won't spend "ages" making them.

Scratch is much better. The main flaw in the mix is that the fat is already incorporated in. With scratch pancakes, you mix in butter and the flavor is much better. Truth be told, the fat is really the only signigicant difference. The rest of the mix (flour, sugar, salt and baking powder) is pretty much the same as what you will be using from your pantry. But, that fresh butter makes a big difference over the oil in the mix. It takes me about 5 minutes to make a scratch batch of pancake batter.

Kirsten, we used to make them from scratch and at times still do, but we found Aunt Jamima's mix, and I have to tell you, for a premix, they turn out so good.
Look truthfully, the way premixes are made, I bet some people couldn't tell the difference, I did a taste test with my boys, they thought you couldn't beat their moms pancakes. so we put them to the test, but both lots of pancakes were packet, I am sneaky. They both picket different plates saying the were moms. They were shocked when they were shown the packet. lol.
So you decide.

Depending ; If You have free time and experience you can start from scratch.
If You are a beginner I recommend that you use a mix from a supermarket.
Hope I Helped !!
