Gift ideas for engagement parties?

Well my parents are wondering what to buy for somebodys engagement party since they have never been to one before. Sadly they can't make it to this one either but are thinking of buying a nice gift.

So, what to you normally give when you can't make it to an engagement party?

I agree with Court2114... Engagement parties are not usually for gifts... But, If they want to give something in lieu of being able to attend, champagne or wine and a congratulatory card with an offer of "letting them know if they need anything" would be nice. They will certainly appreciate it.

Giving a gift is fine if you'd like to but an engagement party isn't a gift giving event. Bottle of wine Gift card to a place they like to eat

An engagement party is not a gift giving event. Your parents can send a nice card.

Engagement parties are not gift giving events. However, it is appropriate to bring a little something like a bottle of wine. If they aren't going, nothing is necessary.

Normally, engagement parties aren't gift-giving events. They don't need to buy anything.

However, if they still want to buy something...they can get a nice bottle of wine for the couple. Something little, not too over-the-top, because like i said, not typically a gift-giving event.

Sometimes an engagement party IS a gift giving event.

My fiance and I had one before we moved across the country. We made a registry and everything. (We figured this was okay since we won't be registering anywhere for our wedding and I also will not be having a bridal shower) We desperately needed items to make a home for ourselves....just about everything!

If your parents know what their current situation is, buy them a household item- nice dishes, wine glasses, a small kitchen appliance (blender, crockpot, mixer)

If you want to play it safe, buy them a gift card to a household goods store-Target, Kohl's, etc.

    Anything is always appreciated.

The last engagement party I attended was for my cousin and we gave her and her finance this digital frame, http://www.digitalframehq.com/pi1003dw-digital-fra... You have to think of all the upcoming events that will lead to more and more pictures, so this digital frame was the perfect gift. They've actually since got married and over the holidays while visiting them, we noticed our frame on their one bookshelves that flashed a few of their wedding photos and honeymoon photos. Maybe suggest this gift idea to your parents? Hope this helps!

There are loads of ideas on this site. http://www.propergifts.co.uk/

They sell gifts for engagements such as personalised message plates for people to sign, personalised champagne flutes, personalised champagne. Have a look, I'm sure you will find something on there.
