School Talent Show-Belly Dancing?

We have an annual school talent show.....involves the usual singing and hip hop dancing

I want to do a belly dance....but want to have your opinion on whether you thinks it approiate for an audience of 13-19 year olds (90% girls)

If yes... what songs do you suggest to make it upbeat but good for dancing to

(I currently listen to alot of Arabic music i.e. Nancy but I dont think a non arab audience will like a song they cant understand)

It is completely appropriate, especially since your audience is mainly female. Belly dance originated in many cultures but it was always by women and for women. Now it is much more common to find belly dancers (of all ages) performing in public.

It is almost impossible to find belly dance music that isn't in arabic, so here are a few possibilities:

    Simarik or Shisharee by Tarkan

    Anything by Natacha Atlas

    Mani Mani

    Anything by Hossam Ramzy

Personally, I'm OK with the concept but I would suggest taking it up with the people at the school. You don't want to get ready for something like this then have to drop it or change your mind.

As to music, use the regular Arabic music you are familiar with to make your dance that much more studied and interesting.

Good luck! I hope it goes well.
