Do anyone have stories about foster care and how being in 'the system' is like?

Much thanks to those who answer!

Going into foster care is traumatic to say the least. Sometimes it can be wonderful, other times it can be horrible. Depends on a lot of factors. My former sister in law and her husband were foster parents for more than 16 years for 3 siblings. Those kids loved them..and they loved the kids. They still visit even though all of them are grown and have families of their own.

ON the other hand, I have seen some foster kids brutalized and abused.

If you are going into the system...know one thing above all. YOU DO HAVE RIGHTS. Don't be afraid to report abuse to the agency handling things or to a trusted teacher or minister.

But also know, that it is not classified as abuse if your foster parents expect you to make your bed, help with dishes etc. You are not their slave...but you ARE a member of their family...so do your part. Don't behave like a guest.
