I'm a high school student who needs a basic laptop...what do I get?

Okay, so I am in high school and this year my school allowed laptops. I want to go electronic next year (my senior year) and bring my laptop everyday for school assignments, but I also want to use it as my own computer so I can stop using the family one.

Right now, I would be happy spending less money, considering it's harder to make as a teen.

I use the Internet, Microsoft programs, iTunes, Skype, and that's basically it.

MY REQUIREMENTS

~I have over 350 GB of music, videos, documents, etc, and my library is always growing, so I would prefer either a cheap laptop with 250 GB and then I could buy a cheap external hard drive to keep at home, OR I could get an expensive computer with at least 500 GB hard drive.

~13-14" screen

~I want the keyboard to be nice and I'd prefer

~something that burns CD's and DVD's

~ has at least 5 hours of battery life per charge (I need it to last for the school day!)

~Windows 7 and good wi-fi connectivity, seeing as that's how I will get Internet at home and in school.

Do you have any good ideas for less expensive laptops that have those requirements? Also, what's a good memory and processor for me? About how many years would this laptop last before I have to get a new one?

Thank you for elaborating, I will conduct research to find a computer suitable for your needs. However is their any particular reason you have narrowed it down to a 13"-14" screen size? Those laptops have a slightly higher price. Furthermore the weight is primarily based on the overall components equipped. The ideal processor I recommend is Intel Core I3 or AMD Phenom II because those processors are robust compared to outdated single-core processors and they are phenomenal for daily computing due to the fact that they harness the latest technology to provide astounding results. Moreover since you are streaming low-moderately demanding applications either one shall perform optimally. The laptop's durability is based on usage, prolonged usage results in a shorter time span for the laptop; also proper maintenance is crucial to ensure that the laptop stay's optimized. All the best :)

If u want a cheap laptop, ur gonna have to be a little less picky :(. Ur requirements are like 1,000$+. Besides, if u only want it for school, why does it need so many things?.

I just have my little dell laptop for school. And for music & stuff i use the family one. :)
