why do religious freaks try to make laws out of there cute little books?
christians/catholics: "my little story says blah blah blah. everyone must follow this no matter what they believe in even tho it doesnt effect my life whatsoever. i am all that is righteous and there is no alternate way to live your life. i need to impose the views i learned from my harry potter book on everyone else because i dont have a job".
look: not everyone believes in your book. stop trying to make everyone follow its rules. its 2011.
roman: objective? your morals come from a book you read. as an atheist, i dont need a book and some cute little stories to know whats right and wrong. youre really screwed up in the head. law of the jungle? how bout all the people who have been murdered in the name of religion. what are you talking about? total if nothing else, religion results in wars, atheists are just chillin'
capitalgentlemen: you are assuming we all believe this god exists. not all do. yes books are handy, but there is a difference between fiction and nonfiction.
not me: you also seem to be missing the point: not all people believe in 'moses' and that whole story? so it is not fair for you to impose your morals based upon this story on everyone.
Buddha: totally agree with you. my philosophy is that if you aren't hurting anyone then who cares? i just hate seeing laws be based on the bible.

Not just religious freaks.
I live in Canada, and the Criminal Code of Canada, which is basically all the laws we have to follow, is found in, guess what? A book! A great big book, to be sure, but, a book all the same.
Books are handy things, as it turns out. Many people who encountered God wrote down what they saw, and these writings are published in books so that those of us who have not encountered God might know what happened.

Why unmarried out devout ideals? Why now not simply ask "must ideals be pressured into our legislation"? Almost all legislation is essentially established on ethical standards, however ethical standards are simply yet another variety of perception. There isn't any manner we will implemented medical exams with the intention to lift morality to the world of truth. We can best say whatever is incorrect considering the fact that we believe or consider it to be incorrect. For illustration, a few persons consider that embryonic stem cellphone study is an ethical significant, and must be allowed through legislation. Some persons preserve the speak; that this is a ethical evil that are meant to be outlawed. Whilst faith could also be a aspect in wherein persons stand, the determination is as a lot a philosophical or moral one as devout one. Neither stance can also be proven to be real; for this reason the legislation have to be established both at the ideals of the bulk, or the ideals of the ones with the vigour to set the legislation. It would be no opposite direction.

As a Buddhist I gotta say...Since we CAN NOT prove this stuff beyond the shadow of a doubt as of yet, it does not really belong in law, but most secular law will coencide with religious law, because despite the homophobia in the old testament, there ARE some very solid humane laws in the books of moses. Especially in relation to the laws that existed in other nations in the old testament days. But we should not do a law because "God says" or "Buddha says", that would not be fair to other religions, or people with out faith of any sort. People of faith say religion is good, people of faith AND those without say politics is crap. Mixing the two does not better politics, it rubs crap off on the faith. Which is why there are more atheists and agnostics in the USA I believe. The mixing of the two, one usually good, one usually bad, is no good.
However religion never actually starts wars, even the crusades, it is access to resources, economics start wars, religions never start them, but they do justify them, again mixing what is good with what if bad and deflowering something good.
the peace movement in the 60s had a HUGE Christian contingent. people forget.
peace

because we believe that our laws are based upon an objective reality. as for the atheist there are no objective morals or laws. at least "religious freaks" have a foundation for their morals. the atheist morals rest only upon subjective grounds. the law of the jungle. which means one thing, there really are no objective value in human life, which means that atheistic humanism crumbles. and theistic humanism rises.

They are called, "moral laws," otherwise known as, "The Ten Commandments". They are laws made and sent by God to Moses, for us to follow.
