VW 1.9tdi engine saftey mode maybe?
Car: 1.9tdi VW polo 100hp 2001reg. I was on the motorway gave the car a bit of welly got up to about 95mph, then the engine power sudenly decreased, got off the motoway turned engine off and back on engine back to normal. Is this due to to some saftey feature, or somthing more sinister perhaps?
Any Ideas?

The vw's don't show up a fault warning lamp for power loss issues the only way to determine the fault is to plug it into the Vag Com diagnostic reader.
When the engine is running on tick over slightly press the throttle and release if the throttle response seams lumpy then the fault is caused by a Faulty Boost pressure solenoid and is quite common on the 1.9 tdi ie on golf iv , passats , Boras , polo models 2001 - 2004.
Boost pressure solenoid costs £30 and is common failure.
Ps Why were you doing 95mph!.

Check your brake lights. No I'm not winding you up.
this model has some similarities with Citroen/ Peugeot models of the same period.
If the brake light switch setting is causing your brake lights to stick on or flick on and off, the message goes to the computer, brakes on, no fuel needed and it then sometimes just hesitates and then re sets ok. Other times limp mode cuts in but stopping and re starting cures it temporarily.
It may not be this but it's easy enough to check the switch and re set if necessary and costs nothing.
The engine management light does not deploy in this instance.

If there is no light on the dash whilst the engine is running it is not in a limp home mode - you have a different problem
