Giving blood when your overweight?

I'm overweight.

My school is having a blood drive and I signed up.

but would they allow me to donate blood even though I'm overweight?

or could it vary? Like they may except me or they may deny me?

You will not be denied because of being overweight. They check your temperature, iron levels and do some prescreening questions and you could be turned away for some of those things but as long as you meet the minimum weight, there is no max.

The only weight criterion is that you have to weigh at least 110 pounds to donate blood. There is no maximum weight limit.

    Blood Donors Must:

    > Be healthy

    > Be at least 17 years old in most states, or 16 years old with parental consent if allowed by state law

    > Weigh at least 110 lbs.

Additional weight requirements apply for donors 18 years old and younger and all high school donors.

Thank you for donating blood :)

No problem, so far as I know, if your health is good an you pass the health screening. If anything, you probably have more blood in your body because you're overweight. It's a great thing to do, congratulations for signing up!

there should be no problem with you giving blood provided you get parental permission if you are under the legal age which most high school students are

your weight has nothing to do with being aloud to give blood/ the only things that could prevent it is if one has or has had cancer is diabetic or another disease that can effect the blood cells
