Performance Engine in GM 90's 1500's?
So, I was talking with someone who said that some of the 90's and even earlier trucks were built at the factory with High Performance Engines and Camshafts instead of the standard stock 350's. He said he thought my 91 Suburban may have one because it has a 3 inch exhaust.
Was wondering if anyone knew if there is any truth to this and how I might go about verifying this about my vehicle. Thanks.

There was no factory high performance engine in those trucks.
Chevy did put out the 454SS pickup truck in 90/91 but that was truck only, not the Suburban
The Suburban came with engine options of 175 HP 305, 210 HP 350, 6.2L 130 HP Detroit Diesel
230 HP 454 as an option on the 3/4 and 1 ton versions

I'm sorry, but that doesn't make any sense. I've seen 3 inch exhausts on a lot of trucks and vans. I think the fact is, you got what you paid for and there were no secret high performance engines...not that you'd know, anyway, because the engines at that time weren't that high-powered anyway.

The main performance truck of that era was the Chevrolet Silverado 454SS.
