Catholics: do you agree?
...with the views of the newly appointed Bishop of Northern California (Robert Vasa), who believes that masturbation and homosexuality are “gravely evil”?
Bob must have spent all of his time in the Castro. And even there, gays and lesbians "don't control everything."
...err, I mean, "taken over everything."

That's Church doctrine. Are you asking us about the Bishop or about the Church?
At any rate, I agree with Church teaching. I am a Catholic.

No, firing out a few knuckle children isn't wrong. Homosexuality isn't wrong. Some people of various religions find masturbation wrong because it's a waste of baby gravy that could have been used to make babies. People (religious or not) dislike homosexuals because they don't fit the social norm, and so they discriminate against them hoping that homosexuality will go away, when all it really does is give them more of an incentive to fight for the rights any human being deserves. Tossing off or being gay has nothing to do with anyone but the people involved :D now excuse me, i have some male photos to go fondle my love stick over.

He is simply towing the Catholic doctrinal line, any Catholic that doesn't agree with it is guilty of picking and choosing the parts of the faith that they like, while abandoning the tough parts.
They are called "Cafeteria Catholics" and while they abound in the pews, their views can not be claimed as Orthodoxy. The church teaches that the homosexual act is "objectively disordered" while masturbation is a "grave sin".

How very sad.
Shows how much two people can disagree...I'd say that the only "gravely evil" thing in the bishop's statement is the willful ignorance and deliberate intolerance he displays.

I agree with the Catholic Church which teaches:
+ Homosexuality +
Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity.
The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But all unmarried people (homosexual, bisexual, and heterosexual) are called to celibacy.
The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."
Official Church documents:

+ "On the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons" http://www.newadvent.org/library/docs_df86ho.htm

Masturbation +
Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
The Catholic Church recognizes the power of sex when it teaches, "Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul."
Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person. A chaste person's body and spirit lives in unity and opposes any behavior that would impair that unity.
Masturbation is contrary to the human dignity of the person, anyone about whom the person has lustful thoughts, and the dignity of human sexuality.

With love in Christ.

Coming from Roman Catholic background myself, I think masturbation is harmless. It offers sexual release. Masturbation on oneself is better than forcing sex on others. As to homosexuality, it is part of God's creation. That's how I see it. Homosexual people can't help being born with extra X-chromosomes, which ascribe to their homosexual tendencies & behaviour.

Yes. It is the binding teaching of the Church Christ founded, and is therefore bound in heaven ... if you believe what the Bible teaches. However, it is not "homosexuality" that is evil. Homosexuality is a morally neutral disorder. Homosexual acts however are gravely evil.

I've been to California and there is too much masturbating going on. The gays have taken over everything but the churches, gun shops and automobile dealerships.

I might agree that homosexual acts are but I wouldn't say that masturbation is "gravely" evil..
