Is Tokyo safe right now?
Obviously there was an earthquake up the coast, and there have been problems with power plants, including some explosions. But my question is, is Tokyo itself safe to visit, and if so, will restaurants/stores/etc be open? Or will everything be closed because of the earthquake?

Tokyo is safe except for the aftershocks. I went to TGIFridays and Hub Pub last night and they were open. However a number of convenient stores and supermarkets have had a rash of panic buying as people have been stocking up in case of another quake.
As for the power plant, radiation is said to be dropping and the metal container of the reactor was not damaged in the explosion.
Things will probably start getting back to normal sunday and monday

I would say stay home if your not going to help in the relief efforts. People need food, medical attention and shelter. Too many roads are still out to determine the true aftermath, I am sure it will be weeks and months for the relief to reach all in need. Ask Haiti.

I wouldn't visit for another month or two. I've heard some stories that there might be another earthquake within a month or so.
