I always get asked if I am Filipino , but I'm not ?

Question

I'm a Thai girl , but being born and raised in California and doing  ALOT of outdoor sports has really made me tan.And I like that .I guess the American social norm for tan people is normal.But when it comes to Asians they always ask me if i'm filipino.I've seen some filipino people and they don't look like me.(for some off reason i tanned in a golden brown yellowish color not brown) .And when i tell people I'm Thai they don't believe me.Could it be possible because I'm Thai,Chinese, and Indian ?

Because people think of Filipino when seeing a very tan or dark Asian. But I see what you mean, because Filipinos aren't even yellow. They're brown, flat brown.
I saw a question on here from a Korean girl that people mistake her for Filipino because of her tan. I was like -____- cause she still looked Korean, not Filipino at all.

People are just plain ignorant. I get people all the time that don't believe I'm hispanic cause I totally look like a white guy.

people  are  utter idiots, my  neice is  from  iraq,in  her  school   they  are  learning the  different  continents. her  teacher  told  the  class  she  is  from  the  middle  east  they  were  shocked  they  said  ohhh  we  thought  you  were  chinese.
