Annual maintenance on an oil burner is to replace the fuel filter and nozzle, check the integrity of the electrodes (replace if the porcelain is cracked or broken) and clean and gap the electrodes. Then clean out the soot.

If oil is not spraying, check the nozzle and pump (and check if you have any oil in your tank). If oil is spraying and not igniting, check the electrodes and transformer. If oil is spraying, igniting but quickly turning off, check the flame sensor.
