who do you think should shoulder most of the blame for rhe lockout?

the owners, the players , or the fans that support the nfl by paying outrageous prices for everything in the nfl?

Update:

but if the fans go on strike the nfl wouldnt have this problem

Update 2:

all good answers so far. i used to ( like 10 yrs ago) got to 2-3 games a year , but i have gotten more and more disgusted with the prices of everything. i havent been to a game in a long time i refuse to buy any nfl product to support my team. i watch it on tv.. but i will never pay just to watch it on tv.

Update 3:

I'm siding with the owners, they are not jeopardizing the season the players are. they make enough money that if they planned right they would have health care, they dont have to blow their money as soon as they get it. Players are way overpaid as it is.there are plenty of college players as well as other players that will play for a fraction of what these "stars" make. However on the bright side I dont think the players will be able to hold out for the whole season as they will make nothing while the owners will still get the tv revenue and not have the overhead of player payroll and stadium worker payroll

The owners were not happy with the last CBA that was signed. At the time Paul Taligibue pushed for them to agree to it because he said there was to much to lose by a work stoppage. So I think we were headed for this one way or another.

The fans they know will never stick to a boycott. To hard to orginize and keep the people intrested.Yet I do think everyone should speak with their dollars. If your unhappy with this don't buy a jersey, ticket,tv package or anything from the NFL for a year.If your going to spend money on it spend less.In the long run it will hit the people involve.

Both share some culpability in this but the owners are the ones who opted out 2 years ago then tried to sign illegal tv deals that forced networks to pay them 4 billion to NOT play football. Judge Doty was very clear on what the law seen as a form of collusion that showed likely intent to halt the season to force the players into a bad deal for them. The NFL (and MLB) are the only entities in the U.S. that dont have to disclose their financial habits to their clients (i.e. the players) and if they want roughly an additional 20% of the pie right off the top without explanation or proof of financial need then they know up front that is going to be a serious issue. Imagine your boss coming to you and saying we are removing 20% of your potential earning power and it is none of your business why and deal with it. That is on top of the 17.5% they already are taking off the top. Yes, the company has the right to pay what they want within reason but tell me you would come to work happy that the boss just stuck it to you and told you to go F*** yourself if you dont like it. If he comes to you and treats you like a man and says here is the deal and here is the documentation of why we must change our business model and offers a way to compromise you might not be thrilled but can at least have some level of trust and respect...the NFL owners chose to get greedy and feel they dont owe any explanation to anybody. And the court already suggested they were conducting questionable business practices with potential harm coming to the other side. Bargain in good faith and this wouldnt be happening right now.

I completely agree that it is on the fans to send a huge financial message to the owners and players that we are the most important entity in this dispute....without us neither side has any money to argue over. But fans have proven time and again they cant stay away...a prime example is my Lions, I have refused to purchase a ticket to any Lions game since Barry Sanders walked away amid rumors he didnt believe the Lions wanted to spend the money to build a winning franchise. Yet Ford Field has constantly sold out which allowed William Clay Ford to get stupid wealthy off the fans while maintaining one of the lowest payrolls in the league with the 2nd smallest scouting group and the lowest paid coaching staffs nearly every year. So the NFL isnt worried about what we think...they know most fans are sheep and they can very easily herd them back in. It has never been about us and never will be.

Both sides are greedy, but I side with the greedy players over the greedy owners. Even if they don't legally have to, why not show those books, owners, if you are so sure you are right? And, players, you are blessed to play the game. You are so lucky to be what you are. Compromise. We all know that, in the end, both sides will compromise, and the only things messed -up will be free-agency and training-camps. Billions of dollars are at stake here. There is only one possible outcome... NFL football will be played.

  • Its the owners fault and let me tell you why. The owners are doing this because they want more money. are you kidding me!!!! the owners make like billions of dollars a year. they dont need money. the owners are just being selfish. the owners get money if there is a lockout or not so they dont really care if there is a lockout this year. i love football. die hard NFL fan but this is just getting ridiculous. too much greed these days

You know what i have a problem with? how much the nfl profits on? too much i was on redskins.com and a redskins robe costed $80 when the robe costed $20 and the only redskins thing on it was them emblem so it costed atleast 17 bucks to make if not less and there selling it for 80 bucks but back to what u were saying the owners are billionares and they dont want to share there money but and nfl qb make 20 million plus sponsors and they still want more but also the players health are terrible and are away from there families much and risk getting paralyzed just for entertainment and no they are not modern day gladiators but they do risk there health and they do about the same work as an average american does but get much more and i do understand why they want more but enough is enough but i think there budgets should be increased so im kind of not sure either but the owners do make billions!

    the players but just barely

i wish many would realize the fans that pay for the tickets most make less than $100,000 a year and for many thats what they get per game or even much more

it makes people cringe when they say $10 Mil a year is not enough to live on.. many wish they had that problem

I blame neither. There's a lot of money at stake and both teams think they are in the right. And neither side wants to be screwed out of what they think is fair. These types of situations are inevitably going to happen from time to time.
