Firefighter out of high school?
So I'm obviously thinking about what i'm going to do after high school and everyone wants me to go to college for 4+ years and whatever... I have a good enough GPA and test scores to get into a decent school but I know i'd have more fun as a firefighter than working some desk job... I'm wondering what you think would be the best/fastest way to become a career firefighter out of high school. (I know of schools that offer "fire science" degrees, would that be a good idea? And I'd rather not join the military for reasons that are irrelevant to this question...)

There are almost no career firefighters out of high school. Reading all the embedded links at this web page...
...should inform you of what it takes to become a firefighter. It is extremely competitive and having at least a two year degree is almost mandatory.
Good Luck!

Unless you live in a small, rural community, where they would want volunteer firefighters, you will need to go to get a degree in fire science. But, these are usually available at community colleges, not 4 year degrees. That is the only way these days. It used to be different.

It could be very commendable to your study into group provider. Volunteer firefighters are the spine of group aid. I recognise that the principles differ through state, county, and municipality. I might advocate that you just get with the nearby volunteer division leader and ask the factors and necessities.
