Why do 11-14 year olds need a job?

Help me understand. Is it cultural? Is it economics? Do parents not provide necessities?

My dad was paid peanuts and mom was stay-at-home, but I still had new clothes and shoes. I had everything I needed for school and more toys than I could play with. We always had nutritious & delicious food. I didn't know we were poor. What's the deal today?

    They don't need them they just want them because they'll see a cool toy on a commercial and want it.

    11-14 year old do have a job it's called school. It is the only job and thing that they really need to be concerned with.
