What does the term 'Economic Dislocation' mean?
I need to explain it a bit further on my powerpoint presentation but i cant find a decent meaning. Can you please explain it that even I, a teenager could understand?

When economic conditions change and the jobs that some people held no longer exist and do not appear to be returning upon economic recovery, we say those people have been dislocated from the economy, in terms of employment. They need to find a different kind of job, and that often requires that they get new training or even go back to school for a different or additional education.
An example would be an assembly line worker in Detroit, that used to be able to provide a middle class lifestyle for a family on the pay for one line worker who did something fairly basic over and over all day long. This task was automated, and a robot now does it, and the worker has been displaced. The new jobs available require more or different skills, or have been relocated to asia or the southern states that do not have unions and therefore pay much less.

So, putting tens of thousands of people out of work is an economic plus? Then restarting the program after several years when everyone has forgotten what they knew, died or retired and everything will have to be re-learnt again would be a good idea? Did you know that virtually nobody working for NASA now knows about the Saturn V rockets used on the Moon shots? They have all retired or died. It was 47 years ago that the designs were well advanced. People who were 25 then are 72 now. I have a better idea. How about telling top military officers that some of their pet projects are a crock of sh!t and are to be discontinued? Yes, some of them really are crocks. If I recall correctly, the LCROSS mission to look for water on the Moon cost $79 million. Divide that by the number of schools and hospitals in the USA, and see how much every place gets. Add the numers of schools and hospitals around the world that need assistance and everybody gets a box of pencils free. $79 million buys land and builds a few hundred houses, depending on the locality. It's maybe 1500 advanced scientific instruments that could be used in ordinary non-space laboratories in routine analysis and testing of air, water, soil, minerals etc. It's maybe four times that number of photocopiers.

It is a term used to explain the difference between the predicted/expected/desired behavior of people in government theories, and the actual behavior of individuals acting in their own self-interests.
