Why is it not acceptable for me to say the "N" word, but redneck and honky are?
perfectly acceptable for anyone to say? I have been told that it just depends on how you use the word, and that is a pile of horse apples. When a black man calls me a redneck he means it just as derogatorily as if I had said the "N" word. So why is this acceptable? Racial equality is a myth in this country, like old Abe said, I think I should move some place where racism can be taken pure without the base lie of equality.

Because it is in fashion at the moment to be racist against whites and sexist against men.
@ Aubrey you definitions are incomplete.
The "N" word is a derivative of the Spanish or Portuguese word "*****" which simply means black.
The word redneck refers to white people that had to work out in the sun and is generally used as a derogatory word for whites who are poor.
The "N" word and redneck are both derogatory terms used on people based on their race. In other words they are both racist terms.

Honky comes from bohunk and hunky, derogatory words for Bohemian, Hungarian, and varnish immigrants that got here into use around the turn of the century. in accordance to Robert Hendrickson, author of the Encyclopedia of word and word Origins, black workers in Chicago meat-packing flowers picked up the term from white workers and started using it indiscriminately to all Caucasians.

Well for one, the "n" word was all about white supremacy and black oppression. That is an entirely different kind of 'derogatory' than 'Redneck' or 'honky' - (Honky? really? is it 1973 again and no one told me?). What you are suggesting is that if races are equal then the any insults must equal. And that is dumb because insults are not equal and you know it. Redneck is not an even an insult for most, its a useful label embraced by many that it is used on.

Right, because black people and other minorities have always been treated so well and have never been the victims of discriminaton and ridicule as the poor, oppressed white people have. Are you insane or just plain racist? Racial equality is indeed a myth in this country and always has been.

i dont think redneck or anything like that are really acceptable either, i think its just a matter of political correctness, for the 'n' word, but because there has been the fight for african americans for so long, and white men were always the enemy for african americans, it is less of an issue, because they have been the victims for so long. people are less concerned with the way white men label other white men, just like black men label other black men, and asians label other asians. but it falls into the understandings people develop from tv or from influence of others. maybe they dont realize that people are still offended by terms like 'redneck', etc. i hope that helps?

Blacks and other minorities have had a free pass lately, but white americans are waking up that this is unacceptable. I find it wholly unacceptable for comedians to bash whites - turn the off, don't go to see them, see how long they last.

Yeah I agree, but it doesn't really offend me if someone calls me a redneck or cracker or anything. Just laugh because there are always worse names to call them. But there really is no reason that black people should hold a grudge or expect to be treated different because I have never actually met a slave, it's all just judgments based on the past, unfortunately.

Because it's cool to hate white people in America. That's what we get for letting non -Americans take over the media. And I think we all know who controls the media. The people with the big noses.

It is called political correctness. Listen to the music of the day, the rap and such, how they throw all those words around, but if you call one a "N", they ready to shot you and hang you all at once. Many years ago, I was in the Navy and was drinking coffee with an old Senior Chief. On another table they was a bunch of guys, black and white, laughing and using the "N" word freely. I ask the Chief doesn't that offend you??? He told me he was called worse growing up and his dad told him that an "N" was a sorry piece of humanity and comes in all colors.
I have always carried those words of wisdom with me for well over 42 years now.
