What are your thoughts on my revised favourites (GIRLS)?
My SO used to be convinced that I could pick the names for our children and he wasn't bothered about them, but now he's decided he is interested and wants a say! So we spent most of the morning devising some first-middle-middle combinations that we both like, and I'm wondering what your thoughts on them are :)
These are the girl names. Check the additional details for the boy name question if you please :)
•• Viola Hazel Blair
Viola is "vy-OH-luh", not "vee-OH-luh". Do you think Violet would be nicer here?
•• Isobel Daphne Grace
Originally had it with Daphne as the first, but we really prefer it in the middle. Is there any one/two syllable name that would sound better than Grace here?
•• Olive Ruby Winter
Is it a problem that these are all word/nature names? It wasn't intentionally, but I did notice it and I don't want the name to sound cheesy. Also, would Olive sound bad in a sibset with Viola because they both have the V sound?
•• Rose Ivy Catherine
Rose Ivy Catherine or Rose Ivy Caroline - which do you prefer? We were also considering Ivy as a first name, but we're worried it's too similar to Viola? This would NOT be used in a sibset with Roman "Rome" at all.
•• Mary Elizabeth June
Mary/Molly is Nate's late grandmother's name, Elizabeth would be after my mother Elle. Nate likes Molly on its own but I don't think it would age well. But then, I think Mary (although the "proper" first name for the nickname Molly) is just a little too plain for our tastes. We're also considering Maren "MAIR-uhn" or Pomeline "pom-eh-LEEN" / "POM-eh-line" as the first name, with the nickname Molly. What do you think of these, and do you have any other suggestions?
Please answer the comment on the questions I’ve asked, and provide your general thoughts on each name. If you don’t have much time to spare, feel free to just rate or tell me your favourites / least favourites. But the 10 points will go to the most detailed answer!
Don't be afraid to be honest, even brutally so! We're still not 100% set on them, and it will probably be a long time before children are really on the cards for us.
Thanks!
~ Aurora
♥
NOTE: Though the flow may sound a little “off” on some of them, my SO and I think they sound perfectly lovely with the surname. Also, if you’re going to make a point about how they’d sound in a sibsets then please note that we’re looking to have just one or two children, with three at the absolute most.

Viola Hazel Blair - 7/10. I didn't use to like Viola at all, but it has been growing on me a wee bit lately. I still far prefer Violet, but I think Viola works a lot better in this combination. Hazel is simply fabulous, and I have a strange fascination with the name Blair, though it's totally not my style. I prefer it spelt Blaire though.
Isobel Daphne Grace - 8/10. Isobel is gorgeous, though I swap between liking this spelling and the Isabelle spelling better. Both lovely though. I used to find Daphne sooo dated, but I've really started like old fashioned names and I'm liking Daphne a lot at the moment. I'm not loving Grace really, I find it to be such a filler middle name.
Olive Ruby Winter - 9/10. Gorgeous. Olive has recently made my favourites list and it's so chic and full of old fashioned loveliness. Ruby is gorgeous and will be used if I have a daughter most likely. Winter is on my favourites too, and I'd really like to use it if I have enough daughters :) I didn't even pick up on the nature/word theme in the names so I don't think it's a problem at all. I really think that Olive and Viola are fine for siblings, they are actually really cute together!
Rose Ivy Catherine - 8/10. Beautiful, though I find the Rose Ivy part a bit flat. I can overlook that though because I love all three names. Rose is simple, feminine and very underused in the first name position. Ivy is on my favourites list as a middle name, and I'd love to use it. Catherine is classic and lovely. I prefer Rose Ivy Catherine over Rose Ivy Caroline for flow, though I like Catherine and Caroline pretty much equally. I think Ivy is a little bit close to Viola for sisters, because they have the same sounds to me when I say them.
Mary Elizabeth June - 8/10. I don't usually like Mary, but I like it a little bit here. I think if I was to honour a Mary, I would use Marina. Out of the options you have, I really like Molly and I think it's one of the few nicknames that I see as aging well, maybe because I knew a Molly. I'm not really a fan of Maren or Pomeline at all. Elizabeth & June are just gorgeous and I think they work in this combo, but I'd really like Marina Elizabeth June.
Suggestions:
Isobel Daphne Fleur
Isobel Daphne Ruth
Isobel Daphne Jean
Isobel Daphne Hope
Isobel Daphne Kate

Viola Hazel Blair -- I've never been a big fan of Viola, though I do see the appeal, and I've gone off Hazel as of late, but I'm loving Blair right now. I do think Violet would sound better -- it's a lot sweeter than Viola, in my opinion.
Isobel Daphne Grace -- "Love this" is all I can really say. So sweet!
Olive Ruby Winter -- I want to love Olive, I really do, but something puts me off. I adore Ruby and Winter, but I do think the entire combo is a bit too nature-y.
Rose Ivy Catherine -- Normally, I'd prefer Caroline to Catherine, I think, but Catherine somehow makes the combo click. Rose and Ivy are gorgeous.
Mary Elizabeth June -- This is probably my favourite of the entire list, it's so vintage and classy! Molly would be a lovely nickname, but I prefer Mary myself. I'm liking Maren at the moment, but I'm not a big fan of Pomeline with either pronunciation, sorry.

Viola Hazel Blair -8/10 Viola is so cute! Though Violet would work as well. I like the middle name Hazel, but not Blair so much.
Isobel Daphne Grace- 9/10 Very cute! Love this name! Daphne gives it a touch of uniqueness because this name isn't really heard that often anymore, at least not in America. While I think Grace fits perfectly, Kaye might also be a good name to replace it with.
Olive Ruby Winter-8/10 Love Ruby Winter, but not liking Olive. It just doesn't work as a name for me. What about Olivia Ruby Winter instead, and calling her Olive or Livia for short? I also think Olivia Ruby Winter flows better with the a.
Rose Ivy Catherine-9/10 Simple but elegant! I love it! It flows very well and is so pretty! I think that Caroline sounds very nice with it as well! I do think Ivy is a bit close to Viola yes.
Mary Elizabeth June-9/10 I agree that Mary is plain, I honestly don't like this name. I loove Molly Elizabeth June! It is very cute. I think that the name Molly will age well. I have seen it on children and young adults/adults and it fits fine. Not liking Maren or Pomeline though, sorry.
Hope this helps!

Hello! :)
•• Viola Hazel Blair
Viola is "vy-OH-luh", not "vee-OH-luh". Do you think Violet would be nicer here?
*-- Personally I love this combination usually I am not at all fond of the name Viola but if you like it that is all that matters, Viola flows better IMO than Violet because Viola is three syllables instead of two. Viola=3 Hazel=2 Blair=1.
•• Isobel Daphne Grace
Originally had it with Daphne as the first, but we really prefer it in the middle. Is there any one/two syllable name that would sound better than Grace here?
*-- Isobel Daphne Rose, Isobel Daphne Kate, Isobel Daphne May would also work. I think I like Isobel Daphne Rose or Isobel Daphne Kate the most it gives the name a little more substance if you know what I mean. Isobel Daphne Maeve is also really nice! :) Isobel Daphne Grace does flow fine though.
•• Olive Ruby Winter
Is it a problem that these are all word/nature names? It wasn't intentionally, but I did notice it and I don't want the name to sound cheesy. Also, would Olive sound bad in a sibset with Viola because they both have the V sound?
*-- Eh, I do think it may be a bit cheesy with all the nature/word names. Maybe....
Olive Rosalie/Rosalind Winter or Olive Felicity Rose, Olive Ruby Charlotte, Olive Ruby Gweneth, Olive Ruby Alice. No I don't think they would sound bad in a sib-set at all! :)
•• Rose Ivy Catherine
Rose Ivy Catherine or Rose Ivy Caroline - which do you prefer? We were also considering Ivy as a first name, but we're worried it's too similar to Viola? This would NOT be used in a sibset with Roman "Rome" at all.
*-- I prefer Rose Ivy Catherine it just seems the names go together more naturally. Ivy Catherine Rose is beautiful & flows a bit better. I don't think it's too similar to Viola at all! I have the same problem with RO names because I love Rosalie & Rowan but I'm afraid they might be too similar for siblings!
*-- I really never liked the name Mary, maybe because I have an aunt with this name so it seems dated to me. I really like Maren Elizabeth June....it actually flows better & prettier IMO. I don't really like Pomeline it's a little too out there for me!
Other suggestions for names that could have the nickname "Molly"....
* = I really like.
Matilda*
Margaret
Mabel
Marguerite
Marianne*
Moira*
Mona

Hope I helped!

Viola Hazel Blair~Viola and Hazel are beautiful names! I would get rid of Blair. I don't care for it what so ever.
Isobel Daphne Grace~ I adore this spelling of Isobel. Daphne is a nice name, but not my style. Grace is gorgeous. I adore it.
Olive Ruby Winter~ I think Olivia is much better than Olive. Plus if necessary, Olive can be the nick name. Ruby is a very pretty name. Winter is a season, not a name, I'd ditch it.
Rose Ivy Catherine~ Absolutely GORGEOUS! I adore all three names, and so glad someone spelled Catherine with a c, I don't care for it with a K. Ivy is sweet, and Rose is very pretty, and lovely as a first name!
Mary Elizabeth June- Definitley more old fashioned then some of the others. Its nice.

I love the name Viola, i haven't heard it in a while, but it is beautiful with Hazel and Blair. I prefer Viola over Violet as it is more feminine and less used.
I prefer Isobel Daphne Zara, but Grace is okay.
Olive Ruby Winter is a little too 'earthy' for me, maybe something like Olive Caroline Winter or Olive Sabine Winter.. I don't know, maybe that's just my taste.
Rose Ivy Catherine is lovely, but i prefer Caroline, it flows better. I think Viola and Ivy soundadorable for sisters.
Mary Elizabeth June, I like this, very classic names, if you aren't completely sure about Mary, maybe something like Margaret might be an option.. Margaret is a variation of Mary and can be shortened to Maggie, which would be cute for a little girl, but also with the option of Margaret for when she gets older.
Viola Hazel Blair is still my favourite, just beautiful.
Hope i've helped a little,
i tried to be honest, i hope i didn't offend you at all..
best of luck with everything.

I dislike 2 middle names, unless you're honoring people.
• Viola Hazel Blair ~ I would prefer Violet, but Viola flows much better. Blair is masculine.
• Isobel Daphne Grace ~ I must say, I prefer Daphne first. I also prefer the spelling Isabel or Isabelle or Isobel. Grace is a bit fillerish. Some other 1-syllable names are: Ruth, Blythe, Belle, Elle, Fern, Faye, Gail, Gwen, Maeve, or Wren.
• Olive Ruby Winter ~ Winter is a season, not a name. But I like Olive & Ruby. I think Olivia Ruby has better flow. I think it'd be fine to have Viola & Olive as siblings.
• Rose Ivy Catherine ~ I like Caroline and Catherine equally, but I do prefer Caroline with this combo. I love Rose as a first name, and Ivy is classic.
• Mary Elizabeth June ~ Not sure if I like June since it's a month, but I do like Elizabeth. I would much rather Elizabeth as the first name. I think Molly would be a good nickname for Margaret, and I like Molly on it's own. I think it'd age well, I know plenty of older people named Molly.

Viola Hazel Blair -- 10/10
I really love this. I think it's absolutely beautiful and all names have that elegance surrounding them. Viola is unusual but beautiful, and I often think it sounds less harsh than Violet. Hazel is also unusual but soft and gorgeous. Blair is not a favourite of mine as I feel it is masculine moreso than feminine, BUT I know you prefer it for girls and it does work well in this combo. The flow is absolutely wonderful and I think combo is gorgeous!
Isobel Daphne Grace -- 9/10
Love! Isobel is so sweet and sassy, that pairing it with Daphne as a middle gives it a little quirk that is just gorgeous. The flow is impeccable between those two. Grace added onto it works well, though Grace sometimes feels like a filler (I'd like Isobel Daphne just as much as Isobel Daphne Grace, if you understand what I mean -- that it adds nothing but also detracts nothing).
Suggestions: Isobel Daphne Paige // Isobel Daphne Claire // Isobel Daphne Cate/Kate
Olive Ruby Winter -- 7/10
Honestly I'm not a fan of Olive. It sounds a little stark, and I do prefer Olivia. Ruby is very sweet and I think it's absolutely gorgeous. Winter is sweet too, and I think it adds a nice little quirk to this combo. I don't think many people would equate Ruby as a "nature" name anyway, as most people think gems just appear in shops, not out of the earth :P. My only concern is the flow of this name -- all names are two syllables and I just think that's really effecting the flow as it feels stilted. Olivia Ruby Winter "Olive" would work much better in my opinion. I wouldn't use Viola and Olive for sisters, just because the only difference is an "a" is one name and an "e" in another, they are too similar for my tastes.
Rose Ivy Catherine -- 7/10
As much as people hate me for saying it, I'm just not a fan of Rose. For some reason it just sounds harsh to me (makes me think of Row, Row, Row the boat) BUT I can appreciate that other people like it and that its' a classic, feminine name. Ivy is sweet and is a little too similar to Viola to use, so it works well as this middle name. I prefer Caroline above Catherine usually but I think Catherine works better in the combo here. The flow is good.
Mary Elizabeth June -- 6/10
Honestly, Mary sticks out like a sore thumb among your other names. It does feel a little plain given your other favourite names. I would prefer Molly as Molly and Viola seem to fit far better than Mary and Viola. Maren and Pomeline are both better alternatives in my mind. Molly Elizabeth June sounds perfect to my ears, and I'd just like to say that although you have issues with it aging, I think they're mostly unfounded. As a child, I was worried that Nikki would sound ridiculous on an adult as I feel it sounds a little juvenile, but I honestly think it has aged with me -- and I think my fears were unfounded. I think the same would do with Molly, honestly.
Hope this helped!

The only ones I don't like are Olive Ruby Winter and Mary Elizabeth June. I like Mary Elizabeth, but I hate the name June.
