How tall should I leave my grass for the first mowing?

I live in central Oklahoma, and my yard is mostly bermuda grass. My problem weeds are henbit in the spring, and yellow foxtail mid summer. I have been bagging every time I mow to prevent spreading and propagating the weeds. Last fall, on the last mowing, I cut the grass on the almost highest setting on the mower. The reason I'm asking is because I've been given advise to leave it tall in the fall, and cut it very short in the spring, (almost scalping it), then raising the height slowly as the summer warms up. I'm not sure this is good advise.

Just cut normal now never ever scalp a lawn a lawn should be cut to be a height you are happy with and by cutting min amount every time to maintain that height that's why the no more than a third off at any time rule is correct less shock for your grass so keeps growing.steady and healthy.

Bermuda is normally cut short so just start by a third off and let it grow a bit and cut another third off till you get where you want gradually and yes in summer a bit longer at that time to help with stress in Extreme heat of summer.

and you did the right thing leaving long at the end of fall.

It depends. Common Bermuda grass is fine having a cutting height between 3/4" to 1 1/2". The height of your grass affects the overall health. Longer grass may better weather periods of drought.

you're actually not a stable determine! A six 12 months previous boy should not be mowing the grass! Six 12 months olds could desire to be reading, enjoying video games, putting out at a chum's abode, or doing homework. yet no longer mowing the backyard. hire somebody to do it. Or do it your self. according to hazard your son can mow the backyard whilst he's 14 yet no longer 6.

three or four inches. Three inches is the best for a healthy lawn. If you anticipate a lot of rain, you can scalp it, but I see no reason why. If you have a prolonged period without steady rain you will be watering it heavily or it will die.
