Are old Honda Civics (1996-2000 model) for poor people?
Thanks for making me feel better about my car, Brad. Maybe I just feel inferior because I go to a private school where kids get BMWs and Audis handed to them... But I do love my little Civic.

Far from it, older Civics are for people who want good gas mileage, reliability, easy repairs, no car payments, and cheap insurance. In other words, it's the smart choice.
I went to a high school with kids who had Mercedes, BMW's, Audi's, all kinds of nice cars just handed to them. I recall 1 kid even getting the brand new Chevy Camaro, 1 with a brand new Mercedes SLK, some kid with a new(er) Corvette, and someone with a brand freakin new Nissan GT-R plain out just given to him. You know what happened to most of those nice cars who had 17 year olds behind the wheel? Crash, impound, stolen, or sold off because once those kids left school they couldn't afford to pay the insurance+bills the parents once handled.
I turned down all the cars offered to me and found a nice 95 Civic sedan to buy all on my own. I freakin love the car and still do 4 years later, after I spent a good amount on it the car is a beast for being just an import and I learned tons about cars from working on it. Best of all my yearly registration is extremely cheap and my insurance is more than easily payable. I did however take my uncles Porsche off his hands recently but will never sell my Civic :)

I have a '97 Civic DX and this car has truly been fantastic. I've owned it for 4 years. I drive the speed limit and average around 24 mpg. It starts up every time with no problem and runs like a champ. Very dependable automobile.

No. It's a reasonable import car that makes sense to drive. If someone call's you poor tell them your getting around 35 mpg's, your car could be made to do 10 second quarter miles and it has an amazing pedigree. so in short, no your honda civic isn't for poor people.

At least you have wheels, be happy ;-) Point A to Point B , low gas mileage..
Don't ever feel inferior about a car, this is coming from someone who borrows his parents' car. Like I said at least you have your wheels to drive to school be happy.
Some kids say they have BMWs, but I Bus Metro Walk .. be cool, as long as its not an ungly colour who cares!

In America your car is a good indicator of your wealth.Car tuners use their culture as potency to hide their poverty. They are not stuck with junk it is a work in progress under their control.SAT scores and IQ are good indicators of wealth.
Another class divide in America is living in a house versus an apartment.Being married is in another class than living together.Humans are status computers. You show class envy so you are the ideal customer when you do get some money.

for people that cant afford high end cars, good looking car, luxury car. go for hondas, honda is just an ordinary car, ordinary looking car, for ordinary people. a car that is cheap in every way, cheap to maintain, cheap cars, cheap build, but still reliable for people that can't afford high end cars and the cost of services they need and gas. so if you can't afford high end cars, there's nothing wrong with honda if that's the only car other people can afford. and as long as you can drive it from home to school, work-home, vice versa. that's fine.

I myself have a 2000 EX and I love it, its my third civic. I know many people who are very insecure and drive expensive cars to have a "look at me I am important" image. I also know people who are very successful and could care less about their automotive image and drive Hondas, Hyundais, etc.

No they are for smart people. They are very good on gas and with rising prices of fuel it's a smart car, indeed.
